Sussex won the toss and bowl Philippe+ Ward Orr Alsop Bopara* Rawlins Garton Khan Crocombe Finn Lenham Umm, so what was the point of adding Haines and Carter to the squad, smacks of never actually intending playing them and just doing it for show.

Crap selection. Result doesn't matter for Sussex. Short sighted.

Why bring Lenham in when Rossington was facing?

Yeah, that's right Sponge & Doyle. Big fan by the way, loved you in the Professionals. I was convinced Haines was included after a 'meeting'. As mentioned, really short sighted. I don't know of course, but why the inclusion all of a sudden? We weren't short. Massive squad actually. More bizarre work at play with management. Getting quite tiresome. Perfect moment for Haines tonight. Perfect. Missed.

On the assumption Bopara only has minimal input in the make up of the final eleven, I actually feel a great deal of sympathy with his predicament.
He can only actually rely on himself, Rawlins and Rashid. He then has to find eight other overs from bowlers who for a variety of reasons clearly cannot be trusted.
Garton is a shadow of the bowler from last season. The three wides aside, a third of his twelve legal deliveries went over the ropes tonight. Finn has been completely underwhelming thus far as a signing. Crocombe a rookie, who is still coming to terms with this form of the game and Mills (missing again tonight), nowhere near the standard expected from a T20 international.
I exclude Lenham, who if you are playing Rawlins and Rashid is taking up a space of a batter (Carter/Haines) and Bopara is therefore forced to squeeze him in somewhere for fear of being challenged as to why he is being played. One over again for him tonight, too many bowling options, too much confusion and as previously stated a place in the side that could be better used.
Having said all that, still feel we have a chance of chasing this down. I hope I am right.

Another good showing from Delray with 2 wickets and 2 catches. He seems to have turned somewhat of a corner, let’s hope he also has a good game with the bat.

I don't wanna know Mrs D. What you and Bodie got up to should remain beautifully discreet in history.
Well, gonna need quite a few. It's the usual Hove road no doubt, so very gettable. I don't wanna put the old mockers on Al-eor but I reckon his obligatory big score is imminent.

Why bring Lenham in when Rossington was facing? Good question Mrs D, particularly when Bopara and Rashid seemed to be getting back some control at that point. I suspect we all knew what was going to happen. The young lad never stood a chance. Either play him as the second spinner, give him a decent bowl rather than having to squeeze him in and throw him under the bus or leave him out and play another batter. In my humble opinion it comes back to the logic behind the team selection.

Another piece of nonsense. Old interview with Tymal published on website. Whoever is in charge of this needs a bollocking. It's embarrassing. Just seen that. Laughable, in a way. In most ways though it is, as you say, embarrassing. What do they think they are doing and are they trying to take fans for mugs?

Our Australian overseas spends the first over swinging like a rusty gate.
Our homegrown rookie hits their Australian overseas for 25 runs off his first over, including two sixes off his first two deliveries and three fours off the next three.
That Liquid can certainly spot a player!!
I take it back, only one off the last ball. Pathetic effort!!

Close but no cigar. It is imminent alright for Orr though, no question. He'll be at the Hundred. Ward's a strange one, even for my eye.
Good to see what looks like a full house. That's decent loyalty. Or a load of people who don't know what they're watching. Either way, should be able to afford Ishant now.
What are all those white birds flapping about? Some exotic creature only seen in Sussex?

It is another problem of the management's own making. They have given him a white ball only contract, so have pretty much got to play him or face the question of why they took that decision. The bigger problem it created tonight is by playing Ward at three, in order to keep a left hand/right hand combination, Alsop our best batter in this season's tournament comes in at five. That didn't end well and is now having a knock on effect. Wheels starting to come off. All resting on Bopara and Rashid.

Bopara batting ego has been exposed. Alsop should bat 3. Philipe, Khan, Finn and Bopara need to step aside. When will Kirtley learn.

Same old story.
Another implosion. 77 for 1 after the powerplay. 131 for 3 after 13 overs. 5 wickets lost for 38 runs when we needed 67 off 7 overs at just over 9.5 runs per over with 7 wickets in hand.
The difference for me...
Wrong team selection. Haines and Carter for Phillipe and Lenham. Didn't need seven bowlers, let alone three spinners.
Seam bowlers/death bowling yet again just not good enough. They scored 58 runs off their last 5 overs, we scored 26 runs.
Failure to play their best bowler Harmer sensibly. In particular his fourth, our fourteenth over.
That was a match we would have won last year and should be winning if we want to be a successful team.
The positive is we have the foundation of a good team. The question is can this coaching/management group recruit quality seam bowlers and get tactics and team selection correct.
