That bumptious old twit, Dennis Healy, who lived in Alfriston, decried Maggie Thatcher for not having a "hinterland" (not sure that's the right word) which was correct although his Parliamentary colleague, Wedgewood Benn, was even more obsessive about politics to the exclusion of all else. None of aforementioned had the remotest interest in any sport, but Healy's main relaxation was photography and could play the piano to a limited extent rather like Vlad Putin!
These days participation in sport like cricket, rugby and football are distant memories and golf in which my father aged 91 still participates holds no interest and neither does bowls! I do regularly attend a gym and alternate between a cardio and weights workout. I have also done a 5K Park Run a few times but yet to achieve a sub 30 minute time. Dad's other interests include jigsaws, stamp collecting and the Church, again none of which has passed off on to me.
As my misses still works I have undertaken the culinary chores and can turn my hand to making a variety of relatively simple dishes. I also keep abreast of current affairs through newspapers and also read novels, but so many are written by women and because men just aren't on the same page, both literally and metaphorically the choice is limited. I used to do quite a bit of photography with an SLR camera and various zoom lenses but its cumbersome and I don't really have an eye for a good picture. As a kid I never really took to fishing but as I have Shinewater Lake on my doorstep I took up membership and bought license but apart from a bream I caught with my brother on one of his exceptionally rare visits I've drawn ablank and given up. When I was at university I did undertake charity work and during a period of unemployment a condition of benefits was compulsory welfare so I worked for Age Concern even when the period of compulsion ended. Since my daughter split from her builder husband and moved to a tired house that needs updating thanks to YouTube I've managed to tile her bathroom, extend the crazy paving patio by uprooting some shrubs, put up some fencing as well as a blind and do some painting jobs. My late father in law would be amazed if not impressed by the quality.
My other daughter played the piano to a higher standard than me, but although she moved out over a decade ago the electric Clavinova piano has been left behind so I've purchased a book of sheet music via Amazon, Fur Elysses, Moonlight Sonata and Clair de Lune, that sort of thing which is now occupying my spare time. Next stage the Albert Hall for a Mozart Piano Concero. Got to be more constructive than sitting on the sofa downloading porn. The libido's pretty dead these days anyway.
