Great schedule from Strauss. Although I would say that, it's almost exactly the same as the one I put up somewhere on here about a year ago. The difference is, & mistake on his part I think, he wants feeder divs instead of just saying 3 divs, which means it's less appealing for two 3rds of counties cos promotion is narrower. He's in the right ball park though for me. Got Champ games in June/July so that's a good start. Ten games, first comp the 50 over one - I think he's seen my schedule idea and thought 'that'll do but I better change summin' otherwise I'll have this nutter LS on my arse.'

Fitting four tournaments into six months is always going to be problematic. Whatever happens, it will be a compromise and have some downsides. For the CC, I agree with liquidskin that three divisions are better than one elite division which is going to hinge on a certain amount of luck to infiltrate if you are in the bottom 12. One of the flaws is surely having The Blast in May. Next year, for example, the IPL is tentatively scheduled to finish on 28 May. It will push the county-based T20 Blast further down the hierarchy. It seems likely that county membership fees will further decline - five home CC games and second-rate T20 Blast games is likely have some impact. I'm curious what effect the Hundred is having on T20 Blast attendances, particularly when individual match tickets for the Blast are priced at £30+. If there has to be a Hundred (and we know there does), I see making the RLODC a second-rate option as being the best solution. It would help if the Hundred and RLODC totally aligned so that fewer players are unemployed for three weeks at the end of August. It seems ridiculous that Sussex have played a single one-day game over three high summer weeks. However, I guess England will get beaten by Albania in the next World ODI tournament, which will require a strategic review of county cricket. The outcome of that will be to focus on 50-over cricket, which will then mean something else has to give. And, so it goes. Fitting four tournaments in six months is always going to be problematic. Oh, I've said that already.

Strauss's plan:
April 50 overs May T20 June Championship July Championship August Hundred September Championship
County championship would be reduced to ten matches and three division of six teams with a promotion play-off at the end of the season.

Strauss's plan: April 50 overs May T20 June Championship July Championship August Hundred September Championship County championship would be reduced to ten matches and three division of six teams with a promotion play-off at the end of the season. Only one of twelve teams would gain promotion to the elite division. The semi and final play-offs would presumably take place at the end of September, not an ideal time to schedule important four-day games that need a result.

Strauss has the right idea. Have you guys seen the Sussex 2nd XI playing Glamorgan? It could be the 1st team. I can understand maybe Haines, Hudson-Prentice, Lenham and Carson wanting some game time, but Crocombe, Clark, Carter, and Coles also playing is madness. They played a full Royal London Schedule. Take the week off, refresh, work on some areas in the nets at Hove ready to get back at it next week. The obsession with number of games is crazy, when do you get time to work on fitness and skills?

If I understand it right, I don't like his idea of 1st & 2nd playing off to decide the champions. You could dominate all season, win by 40 points, then lose a one off & lose the title. What if it's a draw? 1st place is 1st place. Unless I've misunderstood.
What would be better is a separate trophy playoff between the top 2 to give the Champions the chance of the double & 2nd place the chance to stop them & win a trophy themselves. League's the big one though.
