Likely to have Archer and Robinson available for at least 2 of these games. Questioning Farbrace already you do quickly turn Jof is at the IPL Yes but he will need to play red ball cricket before the Ashes so looks like he will be available for Sussex in May

I think signing Smith for 3 matches is a very positive move and aligns with Paul Farbrace’s stated aim on taking up the job of WINNING cricket matches rather thank forever “building for the future”. Yes, we do need to develop our talented young players but above all we need to end the cycle of failing to win matches and start 2023 by bringing some positivity to the whole squad Point being, we have developed our young players. Those players promoted to the 1st XI in 2020 the best have survived and weve had added external players where needed.

We need to get to a position where those young players EXPECT to win the matches they are playing by virtue of the addition of some more experienced players. As has been remarked in the press and on this forum it can be very dispiriting to be part of a unit that never wins, however good some individual performances might be.

Our own coach said at his very first press conference that he disagreed with the path squeaky and grubby had been taking us down with too many youngsters chucked in and guaranteed their place. We need competition for places, we need proven winners, having Steve Smith at the club for 3 minutes would be a benefit let alone 3 matches

I’m in full agreement with therealab1 / Greenfield!!
Smith is a great signing, superb for the players, staff and county cricket fans who are starved of any real media coverage. This creates interest nationally in something else that the 16.4 trophy!
Robinson will surely play but be rotated pre ashes. No chance of Jofra returning early from the IPL.

Unless the ECB treat the 4-day Test v Ireland in early June as Jofra’s warm up for the Ashes he will surely have to play one red ball game for Sussex at minimum. He can’t go straight from the IPL into an Ashes Test.

Why would Sussex not want to have one of the very best players in the world play for them ?

Why has this signing caused negative publicity with some, when Laubaschagne signed for Glamorgan again I didn’t see any negative comments.
Laubaschagne will play more games for Glamorgan then SS will for your mob but no one batted an eyelid.
Don’t get it!!

He has committed himself to that Club in all formats, even playing for the 2s. A very good overseas. I would love to think that Smith, after his 3 match contact, might come back in the future and commit to Sussex like Labuschange has to Glam. Time will tell. In the meantime Sussex have Pujara. He's decent. No disrespect to Smith; but Sussex need a decent bowler; maybe overseas. I hope the Sussex players can learn from Smith, but he is only here for 3 games. For me; and I do get that opinion will be split on this, Sussex do not need Smith and he could get his pre Ashes practice at another Club.

I reckon some people don't want Smith cos he's seen as a cheat or mercenary. Some might not wanna give him match practise for England. But most I reckon Steve think we need a bowler not a bat. They're right but for me Smith's status pretty much supersedes all of it. The cheat stuff bothers me the most, & the fake crying afterwards, but sod it.
Who were those two bowlers you offered again? Yeah both please.
As for Archer, he may well play a game or two for us at some point, it's all the numpties saying it was gonna be April that was grinding my gears. Good to see him at the Saffa Spank, which is being played at the same time as the Covicts Club & the odd international game. To dilute is to... I was gonna rhyme that but I can't. It's not good though, that'll do.

When does Smiffy turn up chaps? Next week away to Worcestershire, then for the trip to Leicestershire and home to Glamorgan the following week.
