One or two familiar names from English Cricket in the top twenty of the Dhaka Premier Division in Bangladesh, with Ashar Zaidi close to the top.

Not a record, but impressive nonetheless - Craig and his brothers playing in the Plunkett Shield for Auckland v Wellington

The BBL begins on Thursday and Luke Wright's side 'Melbourne Stars' open the tournament with an away match against the 'Adelaide Strikers'. Luke is joined by KP as a team mate. Their side then play on Saturday with a home game. Let us hope Luke has a great tournament. Progress of his exploits will be followed on this thread. Meanwhile, 6 other English players are involved. Andrew Flintoff (Brisbane Heat); Alex Hales & Tim Bresnan (Hobart Hurricanes): Michael Carberry (Perth Scorchers); Michael Lumb (Sydney Sixers); and Eoin Morgan (Sydney Thunder). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014–15_Big_Bash_League_season

While the 'Melbourne Stars' were thrashed by the 'Adelaide Strikers' in the opening match of the BBL, the two Brits, Luke Wright and Kevin Pietersen were the stars for Melbourne. Luke scored 45 runs in 37 balls and KP 66 runs in 46 balls. The other batsmen did not even each double figures. The side limped to 148-7 - not a high score in T20 today - and Adelaide then sprinted to 149-2 in just 12.3 overs with keeper Tim Ludeman hitting an imperious 92* in just 44 balls. A great start for Lukey and KP but not for their team. www.cricbuzz.com/live-cricket-scorecard/13911/adelaide-strikers-vs-melbourne-stars-1st-match-big-bash-league-2014-15

In the second game played by the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash, against the Hobart Hurricanes cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/660/660488.html, Luke Wright mainbtained his strike rate of over 100, but only scored 13 this time off 11 balls. Pietersen scored 1 of 3 balls, and the Melbourne Stars once again failed to pace themselves to the runrate required, losing by 52 runs despite a knock og 62 by Cameron White. The new Notts recruit, once disparagingly regarded as a donkey but seemingly reborn, Brad Hilfenhaus seems to have been the pick of the bowlers, with 4 for 27, including the former Notts ass. No sign of Craig Cachopa in the current round of Plunket Shield games for Auckand v Central Districts. His place in this game has been taken by another young South African-born batsman, Robert O'Donnell. According to his Twitter feed Craig is in Melbourne at the moment, and looking relaxed as the picture shows.

The BBL is now in its stride with 7 matches complete. The Melbourne Stars with KP and Luke play their third game tomorrow requiring a win to kick start their tournament.
Other England players
Michael Lumb is holding his head high with 28 and 27 in his first two games for the Sydney Sixers. Michael Carberry scored 17 in his opening match for the Perth Scorchers along with Eoin Morgan 12* (Sydney Thunder); but Alex Hales 1 (Hobart Hurricanes) and Andrew Flintoff's 3 ball duck for 'Brisbane Heat' both need a better second game.

Wright curently keeping the hopes of the Melbourne Stars alive single-handedly with 31 not out from 51/3 in the 8th over, chasing 165 by Brisbane Heat. No Pietersen this time, but luminaries like Hussey Minor, Maxwell and White have already gone for next to nothing.
On edit: and, of course, perishes as he tries to force the pace while his partner, Quiney, plays sedately for tea, perhaps, or the second new ball, or something inappropriate to this contest.

Is KP injured? or dropped rested?

Is KP injured? or dropped rested? No idea, but we may be in at the birth of an interesting new tactic. At 74-4 off 12 overs, and having scored 12 from 20 balls, Quiney retired with a leg injury. Triffitt and Faulkner then added 42 runs in 4.2 overs. Retired useless, perhaps?

51 for Craig Cachopa today as Auckland defeat Canterbury by 7 wickets in the Ford Trophy 50 over competition. Cachopa scored his runs off 35 balls at a strike-rate of 145.71. In all matches in New Zealand this wintere he has scored 432 runs with 3 50s.

Craig Cachopa's excellent New Zealand domestic season continues with his first century of the winter, 110 from a comparatively sedate 100 balls, as Auckland beat Otago in the Ford Trophy 50 over competititon. Auckland are unbeaten so far in this competition and their next match is against Canterbury on 5 January.

Highlights from that innings (sort of) can be found here. No doubt the funkiest way that highlights have been presented, accessed by clicking relevant parts of the scorecard. Weird

That really does reduce everything to the basics: 4s, 6s and outs. I suppose on a really difficult wicket a batsman might make a 40 without boundaries that proved to be the winning score for his team, and nothing would show apart from his dismissal.
