We have a squad.
Carson and Currie come in but there’s no Robinson (ECB want to rest him this week with a return next week v Glamorgan) Tom Haines still has a slight knee injury. Nothing about Garton so guess he’s just not selected?
Pujara (c) Alsop Carson Carter (wk) Clark Coles Crocombe Currie Hudson-Prentice Hunt Ibrahim Karvelas Orr Smith.

I wonder with Clarks form whether theyre going to try something a little funky!

I fully appreciate this wont be the team but it's what I'd go for. I cant see them risking playing Karvelas for reduced payments if that is indeed the case. Sean Hunt shouldnt be anywhere near the squad so I'd have Ibrahim as my 4th seamer and have 2 spinning options.
I'm going up there for the first day so as it stands im praying rather heavily we win the toss and bat!

Is George still suffering from long Covid? No doubt the Club are saving him for the T20 campaign next month.

Something dodgy is going on with Garton. No mention of him on website news. Great opportunity for the bowlers at Grace Road. Can they get 20 wickets? I really hope so. But I have zero confidence in our bowling coach; he doesn't seem to have improved our "talented youngsters". Win the toss and hopefully pile on the runs.

What's the point of keeping over paid underforming Finn? Can some enlighten me? Another Meaker IMO Garton, perhaps the coach doesn't think he's performing in the 2nd team? H-P is doing quite well, why drop him? I know Garton is a favourite for many. Over rated for me. Sat back after some initial success. I know England ODI but, competition now. Have to say they're doing better than I thought. Let's see what happens without OR.

I understand where you’re coming from but Ibrahim would have to go in at 3 because Pujara and Smith won’t move from 4 and 5.

Win the toss, bat and no reason why we can’t post 400+.
Can we take 20 wickets though

Even if by some miracle we get 450 runs I cannot see us taking 20 wickets without Robinson or McAndrew. A high scoring draw is the best Sussex can hope for.

I’m hoping they’ll take the financial hit and play Karvelas (because I’m a supporter rather than club accountant!). After all, why have him in the squad if he’s not being considered for selection?

Inspection at 2. Can't see more than 30 overs being bowled today. Not looking too good for tomorrow either.

If the scores in other games are anything to go by, it might only take 2 days to get a result, which is just as well! If there’s play tomorrow and we win the toss, I’d ask Leics to bat under dark cloudy skies.

Could one of you help with my understanding of the following. The toss is made 30 mins before start of play. Only at the toss are the playing 11 named. Is that correct? And if so, because of yesterday's conditions we didn't have to name the 11. Have I understood this correctly?

Leicestershire win the toss and put us in.
Team
Orr Clark Alsop Pujara Smith Coles Carter Hudson-Prentice Karvelas Currie Crocombe
More than a little surprised to see Karvelas but will be interesting to see if he and Currie can improve our bowling without Robinson.

And if so, because of yesterday's conditions we didn't have to name the 11. Have I understood this correctly? That is my understanding Sponge, they wouldn't have had to name the final eleven until this morning. Good to see Karvelas and Currie back in the starting eleven. It took last year's management until the final few matches, more through luck than judgement, before they figured out these were better wicket taking options than the alternatives. Farbrace clearly more astute. In fairness I could understand why Hunt kept his place for Worcestershire given his late cameo opening the bowling in the second innings of the Gloucestershire match. But, 34-6-155-1 at New Road nowhere near good enough. Time for him to look to regain form and confidence in the seconds. No surprise the ECB pulled Robinson. Not good viewing watching both him and Hudson-Prentice bowled into the ground in the last game due to lack of other wicket taking options. Still looks a side more capable of avoiding defeat than winning the match, but it will be interesting to see if Karvelas and Currie can pick up where they left off last season.
