Now, I'm going to stick my neck out and say Coventry will win this afternoon. All this hype for Luton as the comeback kids and their rickety old ground is a further incentive for Coventry to spoil the party. I can recall when the mighty Spurs won the FA Cup in 61, 62 and 67 it meant that after repeating that pattern in 81 and 82 we were destined to win in 87 which of course didn't happen. Dont get me wrong, I would like to see the Hatters win having seen them play at Eastbourne Borough when we were both in the Conference so it will be great to see a club make that Everest ascent, even if I heard a couple of their supporters disdainfully compare our ground with Dunstable Town!!
Of course Northants used to play county cricket over the border in Luton, not that I've ever been and dont suppose any of u lot have either
Finally when I was at boarding school, we had this pupil who came from Luton and avid supporter of Luton Town, uncannily his surname was Luxton. When we wore casuals on Thursday afternoon and weekends "Lucky" could always be seen sporting his orange Luton Town scarf. Bloody good bloke was Lucky, when we were playing 2nd XI cricket I had just smitten the fast bowler for a boundary with him at the other end. He came down mid wicket and said "that's better, you keep backing away." And with good reason, the selfish bast*rd who had just got out before me was so slow getting his gear off I didn't have time to put a club box he was using on as the guy batting straight after him got out 1st ball. Needless to say I later copped one in the nuts and had to retire hurt with consolatary pat on the back from Lucky as I painfully limped to the boundary.
