No O/S, an injured Orr, and we still beat the in-form Surrey.
Congrats to Alsop (51*) and Burgess (48). Perhaps, Carter
can wait for another day. 

Finally, we must thank Surrey for resting Sean Abbott.

What a fantastic game of cricket 🏏, a neutral would have been thoroughly entertained.

Great performance given we were without both our overseas and Orr picked up an injury.

Outstanding effort from the bowling unit, some great catches, well batted Alsop and Burgess and full credit to Coles for keeping his head at the end.

Also, although I won't say it too loud 🤫, thanks to the Umpire. Because if the shoe had been on the other foot, I would have been fuming at the not one, but two LBW's turned down against Alsop.

Having said all of the above, the person in my opinion who deserves the most credit is one Mr Farbrace. Quite understandably, there were a few raised eyebrows and not unreasonably questions raised about the signing of Burgess. Never should we doubt him again. An absolute stroke of genius. Hopefully, there is no recall clause in the loan agreement.

However, we need to keep our feet on the ground and shouldn't get carried away with today's result, although we should thoroughly enjoy it.

We had an abysmal campaign last year and any team that loses the quality, experience and ability of the likes of Wright, Salt, Evans, Wiese, Beer, Briggs, Jordan and Archer as we have in recent times are going to take time to regroup and rebuild.

The days where qualification for the quarter finals was the absolute minimum to be expected from a Sussex T20 squad are in the past. If this group can achieve that this year, it will be an exceptional achievement.

I am going to thoroughly enjoy this evening, not only because we won, but because we did it against all the odds.

That would have been a shock result even if we’d had our overseas players and gives us some rare bragging rights with our friend Steve. Our players needed a lift after the last few games and that was near enough perfect.

I did feel that your side rested a few with the view that the result was a foregone conclusion.  Although when our reply reached 56-4 after 10.1 overs it looked as though your selection was going to pay off.

In fairness, I thought we had a couple of big decisions go our way.  If Alsop did get a bat on those two LBW shouts, then fair play to the Umpire, but it must have been the thinnest of thinnest edges!!
