187/8 at the close, 32 runs adrift.
Some good hitting from McAndrew at the end but too little too late.
And that is probably the end of our Blast campaign.

Unfortunately, another match, another defeat. I am afraid there will be plenty more during our T20 campaign this season.
Quite simply, we lack the experience, quality, know how, squad depth and ability.
Farbrace must be wondering what he has taken on.
In order to turn this around we will need to go through the same painful process we have with our red ball side, which through experience we know will take at least a couple of seasons. Our youngsters need to learn quickly and we need to recruit very wisely.
Today, the no balls and wides (predominantly from our most experienced bowlers) was poor. However, their boundary count of 19 fours and 11 sixes to our 16 fours and 6 sixes (most of the latter coming at the end when the game was already lost) was the more prevalent deciding factor. It illustrated a combination of poor bowling and lack of genuine fire power at the top end of the batting order. If they had held their catches the margin of defeat would have been even greater.
Looking at the composition of the group, anticipate a bottom three placed finish. The Middlesex and Kent matches will determine our final position, regretfully we only get to play the former once, this coming Thursday.

Sussex need a miracle to qualify now. I don't believe in miracles. Now is the time for Farbrace to give his good inexperienced players some game time. Nothing to lose. So, Bopara doesn't play again. He's got his cap, job done. Khan is released early. Burgess goes back to Warks. Mills doesn't play again. Garton doesn't play again. All of the above are not the future of Sussex.
This should give plenty of opportunities for others. What will Farbrace do?

The good points are we managed to bat the full 20 overs for a change and that after these performances, we won’t be troubled by many departures to play in the Hundred. The bad points are just about everything else.
I agree with sponge that the only purpose of this tournament for us now is to give young players experience. Just like last year, they’re generally outplaying the older ones anyway. I wouldn’t write off Garton at the age of 26 though!
To complete the cricketing weekend, we now find Jack Leach will miss the Ashes series. When does the football season start again?

Just as replacing the likes of Joyce, Magoffin, Yardy, Robinson, Jordan and Archer has been a big job for the CC, replacing Wright, Salt, Evans, Rashid Khan and Jordan is a big job for the T20s. This year’s overseas aren’t as good as Taylor, Carey and Rashid Khan though, I suspect, much cheaper. If I have any criticism, it is the money spent on Smith was poorly spent, unless there are greater plans afoot for the future. Getting a new T20 side together will take time without top-notch overseas players.

Rashid didn't play often, neither did Carey. Add Briggs & Beer to the T20 list and you have the experience from recent years. Poss Nash? Taylor, overseas, reputation bigger than his contribution? This years O/S, he's not good enough is he? Who signed him, stand up please! We want to hurl rubbish at you.
This bunch haven't had someone to mould them. And some (many) just aren't near the mark, say what you want, they aren't! Now the O/S have left, who will control the kindergarden? And score the runs.
The clowns last year (plus greenfield) saw to that.
Where's Rawlins?

Evans, Briggs, Salt and Jordan - all unexplained departures. Add in Wiese as well as he couldn't come back as we used multiple overseas spots to replace the domestic players. Throw in the retirement of Wright and Beer, unavailability of Archer, and the T20 side has gradually crumbled over the last few years.

Throw in the retirement of Wright and Beer, unavailability of Archer, and the T20 side has gradually crumbled over the last few years. Evans, Briggs, Salt and Jordan are unexplained, I agree. However, I suspect Evans and Salt were about money, Jordan has hardly played any cricket for a county in the last three years, so no great loss (sadly), which leaves Briggs. I think we miss Briggs more than was perhaps realised at the time. Replacing Luke Wright at T20, particularly, is almost impossible; let’s hope one of the young ones comes through the ranks.
