Most counties play on Sunday this week but Sussex not in action till Tuesday. There’s a lot of rain forecast for Sunday so we may have dodged a washout.
Kent have played 8 and won 3 so are 6th on 6 points. They play Gloucester tonight.
Can’t see there being many changes to the team for this one.

I would make three changes with Crocombe, Foreman and Tear replacing Clark, Ibrahim and Karvelas. The latter three need to be rested for the county championship.

Squad
McAndrew and Khan miss out through injury. So no O/S for this one and no front line spin option.
Bopara Alsop Burgess Carter Clark Coles Crocombe Currie Garton FHP Ibrahim Karvelas Mills Ward

Very strange that neither Lenham or Foreman in the squad. Maybe Farbrace thinks the 2s red ball game is more important for them.

Sussex 169-7 after 20 overs. Below par score, methinks.
Good death bowling from Kent.

Runs on the board, but looks a bit light for that wicket. We will need to bowl and field well if we are to win.
The second match in a row where we lacked the necessary impetus in the final overs to post a really challenging total for the opposition.
133-3 after 15 overs, only 36 runs off the last 5 overs. I don't feel it's unreasonable to have expected a total nearer 190 from where we were with 5 overs remaining.

Typical tantalising innings from Harrison Ward who always goes off like a rocket but never stays long enough to build a match winning score. Better than our other current options to open though.

The difference...
Sussex 133-3 after 15 overs, finishing 169-7.
Kent 123-4 after 15 overs, winning with eight balls to spare.
We have to finish our innings stronger, particularly when we have given ourselves a good foundation. Yes, the bowling could have been better, yes there were a few slips in the field, but the difference was the batters left our death bowlers too much to do. We got away with it against Middlesex, we didn't tonight.
The positive is at least as the Tournament has progressed we have become more competive. Perhaps even more importantly you can see within the group, which players have the necessary skill set and potential in time to be part of a squad that can challenge for a quarter final place. This being our minimum expectation not that long ago.
We need to be patient as we are probably still at least a couple of seasons away. In order to get there we need to find a couple of batters and a couple of bowlers, one of which has to be a top class spinner. We need a new captain and if this season and last has taught us anything, we really, really need to get better with our overseas recruitment in this area.
McAndrew has been a great red ball acquisition, but just OK in the white ball version. We have had one innings of note and a 3-28 against Essex from Shadab. Nowhere near what is required from your specialist overseas.
Final moan, another example tonight of a player who always seems to get runs against us. Why can't we get the Libby's, Carlson's and Cox's out?

Well, I'm not sure what to make of Mill's post match interview. Does he want to move to a Club which has an established T20 team? We do have some good talent, which given the right support will come good. But T20 can be brutal and there are fine lines of individual success and failure. As much as Bopara is still a good player, he is a very poor captain. I thought he could have accelerated his innings better today. Our overseas selection, particularly Khan has been poor. I do think McAndrew adds something and he will run through brick walls for the Club. At the moment we are just not good enough. But I do think that Farbrace should have a pretty good idea what he needs to strengthen and how to do it; including the coaches.
