Well, it feels as if the early season optimism has been dented properly today. What a dire performance against the Mighty Welsh. I except that it cannot always be perfect but, 1st innings 140-7 having been 131-3, Allowing 41-4 to turn into 411, 2nd innings crashing from 22-0 to 32-5, against not the greatest attack - you certainly aren't winning games from those positions. When the battings fired, fine but what are Clark and Haines doing, going off at 5.5 an over when theoretically there are 6 full sessions left and you are the best part of 150 behind on the first innings ?? One problem that is still not being addressed is the opening pair, Clark, like the likes of Harry Finch and Carl Hopkinson of the past , is better suited to the early middle order and currently looks shot. Carson is apparently carrying a back problem too. A very tough pair of games await against Yorkshire (even with the possible absence of Harry Brook with England's T20 squad) and Middlesex and let us hope that this was a blip.

Tom Clark was second in the Div 2 averages (behind James Coles) going into this game though. Unfortunately it was the bowling averages and based on just 2 wickets in 13 overs.
Also Matt Potts was top of the Div 1 averages but this time for batting. Goes to show averages need to be treated with caution!

Or a minimum requirement Squaro. Clark's quality, middle order though. Orr, 126 odd the other day, is a huge loss. And an insulting one. Wouldn't give him enough corn apparently. If that's true we'll never go far. What did we pay to get Grizz? What did we then win? It ain't a coincidence.

Not really a like for like comparison. To be fair also most games were played without Orr anyway.

Not really a like for like comparison. To be fair also most games were played without Orr anyway. Yep and hes scored that on the flattest pitch imaginable. It's natural to feel disappointed after such a big loss but our frailties will be highlighted occassionally when our big performers do not perform. Our 1st and 2nd change bowlers are both second change bowlers youll get away with this for a while particularly if big runs are posted, Clark and Alsop still have question marks for me in their respective batting spots. The idea of bringing Pujara up to open is mental you need your best player at 4. Lamb I'd stick to what weve got currently and as mentioned if they chucked a bit more money at Carlson he'd have been in our ranks and if we are in Div 1 next year he may well be.
