I’m impressed that anyone still cares about who we field in this competition although there is still something at stake … can we equal last year’s record of one win?

Could be a good game (could be) judging by the Rey's squad.

Interesting, no Hunt, Karvelas or Hudson-Prentice. No reason given. Injured, rested or just omitted? That is pretty much the eleven, one spinner and one batter to miss out. My preference would be for Foreman over Lenham, but the option of an off and leg spinner may prevail.

Here’s the team selected. We’ve drafted in Alsop and Robinson so we’re obviously gunning for a win in this one:
Tom Haines Tom Clark Tom Alsop Zach Lion-Cachet Oli Carter John Simpson (c), Captain (wk), Wicket Keeper Jack Carson Archie Lenham Danial Ibrahim Ollie Robinson Henry Crocombe

Looks as if Farbrace is only putting out stronger teams in the home fixtures to keep the members happy. Not much point really as we can’t progress but I think he’s using the game as a training aid. As we know Ollie Rob doesn’t like to travel but hasn’t played for his 100 team so needs to get some overs in. What an absolute farce.

Losing can easily become a habit so it’s important to break this run before we get back to Championship cricket.

No Churchy to bully the commentary box. Bonus.

Extras building up nicely again. Lenham the only bowler not have conceded either a wide or no ball. A good day for Lenham, the best he has bowled for quite some time. 10 overs, 2 wickets for 35 and twenty of those runs came from two overs.

I know I go on about extras but it really is just getting the basics right. Of course there’ll always be the odd one or two in every innings but it’s like having an extra batter who scores 31.

That went very much to script. The more experienced and stronger Sussex line up take a comfortable win.
Surrey's experienced top order plus their two promising young guns set a good base only for the inexperienced lower order to capitulate. Robinson comes back to mop up the tail.
The experienced Sussex top order plus Simpson get the necessary runs. Lion-Cachet and Carter who continues to struggle miss out on an opportunity to get a bit of time in the middle and get a twenty plus not out.
Great day for Lenham who bowled better than he has for some time. Haines returning to form just in time for the Championship run in and Alsop gets some much needed batting after a month doing nothing in the Hundred.
Only possible negative, Carson leaves the field with a hand/finger injury. Hopefully, he is OK.
It will be interesting to see what team we put out on Wednesday. Hopefully, same or similar to today with a good blend of experience. The younger members of the team certainly appear to benefit from this approach.

Some have done better than others, but not one of the young players has put in a run of performances that demand their consideration for the championship/T20 line-ups. And some of those with a good chunk of first team experience have been the crappest. This has been a real surprise and disappointment. On the plus side it’s been a comprehensive reality check.
And overall season going very well blah blah
