Has announced he will be retiring at the end of the season t.co/AhjqIcgtalMike Yardy has been the last of the old-fashioned pros to play for Sussex, a good journeyman who profited from the early popularity of T20 to lift his career to a new and higher level by cleverly using and adapting his bowling skills, meagre in the context of 4-day cricket, to meet the demands of the new medium. His courage in continuing his career in the wake of depressive illness is probably the greatest of the strengths he has shown and he is a role model and pathfinder for many sportsmen in doing this. Above all he has given us endless entertainment through his complete inability to judge a run Good luck for the rest of your life Mikee, and to whatever venture you go into after the end of the season. Hope to see you on the field before the end of the summer.

A real shame although it is definitely the right decision for the reasons he has cited. I have enjoyed watching you play for Sussex and wish you all the very best for the future. With Prior and Yardy both retiring it highlights the need for Greenfield to start producing some players something he has struggled to do of late.

He was there at the beginning and it looks like he's leaving at the beginning. He's a World cup winner, not many England players past and present can say that. All hail Michael Yardy.

Would like to wish Michael all the best in his future endeavours. Gutted his last game has ended in relegation despite 2 decent knocks but at least he got a hundred in his last innings at Hove. A great pro and a thoroughly nice man, he has been a fantastic servant to the club and we will definitely miss him.

Absolutely His form since announcing his retirement, has probably surpassed anything he's done before. He will be missed, that's for sure
