Since it's the festive season and it's therefore impossible to enter any shop, pub or office party without a blast of tacky pop from years gone by, it seems appropriate to put together a playlist of all those songs that should have been about cricket from their titles. Excluded from this list, therefore, are 10CC's Dreadlock Holiday ("I don't like cricket...") and the entire, glorious ouevre of The Duckworth-Lewis Method.
Let's begin with these few suggestions, starting with fielding:
Dave Clark Five - Catch Us If You Can
Donovan - Catch the wind
Rolling in the Deep – Adele
Then it's the batsmen take the stage, uncompromising or prolific and versatile, according to taste:
Stuck In The Middle With You - Stealers Wheel
Both Sides Now - Joni Mitchell
The bowlers take their turn:
Faster - Manic Street Preachers
Speed King - Deep Purple
The captain exercises his options:
A Change is gonna come - Sam Cooke
Spin Spin Spin – HP Lovecraft
Slow Hand - The Pointer Sisters
And then the umpires have their say:
Roy Orbison - It's Over
Simple Twist of Fate - Bob Dylan
Sherbet - Howzat
And the inevitable:
Running Out - The Scissor Sisters

In The Pyjama Game starring Doris Day, there is a song titled "Racing With The Clock", which Alastair Cook might care to hum to himself while England take forever to bowl their overs in the next ODI!
