One of the more deplorable aspects of the arbitrary way in which the club blew up the old message board was the wipe out of the competition in which we had all made our predictions for the 2014 season in good faith that a winner would be declared in September.
I'm going to claim that I won, safe in the knowledge that as the club destroyed the evidence, nobody can say that I didn't!
Probably still a bit early to start the competition on here for 2015; but I see the club website is already running a poll on who will be first to 1,000 runs.
It's as half-baked as you might fear, in that it doesn't specify whether it's 1000 first-class runs or whether it includes non f/c matches.
But it has a list of five serious contenders (we can ignore the jokey inclusion of Magoffin), two of whom I don't expect to be in the first choice XI come April - Yardy and Hamilton-Brown. Yet it doesn't include Cachopa or Prior (hh is going to read all kinds of messages into the exclusion of the latter - and who is to say he's wrong?)
If the top six in the first LVCC goes:
Wells/Nash/Joyce/Cachopa/Wright/Prior or Brown
then I fancy a punt on Cachopa as the first to the landmark - particularly if it means all matches, as Wells and Joyce have not often been first choice picks in white ball cricket.
The fact that Wright isn't playing in the IPL this year makes him my second choice. But traditionally the extra workload involved in a benefit season results in a lesser performance, so I'm sticking with Craig C to head the chase...

Excellent idea, borderman. Would you care to specify "for the avoidance of doubt", whether the marker is set for championship games alone, or all first-class? Also I note you're covering your bets at this early stage with your prediction being based on "If the top six in the first LVCC goes". Does this mean that if, say Pizzaboy makes a comeback, your punt is voided? Just getting the concepts clear and understood, then we can all indulge in dreams of the summer....

Reviving this thread as we're getting close to D-day, and assuming that borderman will agree that we are limiting the choices to Championship games only, I will opt for Joyce once again as first to 1000 runs.
I will also take a very long shot on first to 50 wickets, and avoiding the obvious Mr SM, I will hope that MIlls enjoys the success and confidence that Jordan found when he first came to Sussex.

I will take a punt and say Harry Finch first to 1000 runs and Matt Hobden first to 50 wickets. Someone has to show some faith in the youngsters.

My outside punt is Craig Cachopa first to 1,000 runs and a safer bet on SM first to 50 wickets... again!
