An end of an era at Sussex CCC is focussed upon again as Chris Adams releases his book tomorrow. As the publicity drive begins, Chris talks to Danny Pike on ‘BBC Radio Sussex’ about his cricketing life and his new publication ‘Grizzly - My Life and Times in Cricket’. Chris is "gutted" by relegation and follows the club “intensely”. He still feels Sussex is “a huge part of me.” He blames the team’s loss of confidence midway through the season. Danny Pike asks, “is it time for Adams?” CA: “I have discussed it with the club. I would love to be a part of the coaching staff.” DP: “Why hasn’t it happened?” CA: “You must ask the club. I’m sure many supporters would like me to return.” DP: “Is there a stumbling block?” CA: “I don’t know. I am not aware of one.” An excellent 30 minute interview from Danny Pike. Well worth a listen whether you’re a fan or not. audioboom.com/boos/3636420-chris-adams-talks-to-danny-pike-on-bbc-sussex

softandfluffy, if you hotlink these images, using the "Add image to post" button, then a) There is no arbitrary limit of 3 images per post and more importantly b) It doesn't use up any of our precious free space. If you have any problems hotlinking using PostImage.org, PM me.

Apologies if I’m banging the Chris Adams drum but his book is officially published today and can be bought from either ‘Pitch Publishing’ direct, Amazon or no doubt “all good book shops.” www.pitchpublishing.co.uk/shop/grizzlyThe Club have invited Chris to give a talk at one of their forthcoming Winter monthly lunches. The date set is October 28th. The cost of the event is £17.50 which includes a welcome drink. Arrival is from 12.00pm for lunch at 12.30pm. To book your place contact Helen Allan on 01273 827106 or via e-mail at: helen.allan@sussexcricket.co.uk Presently, I am writing a book review which will be published on this blog. PS: While the book's recommended price is £18.99, already the competition battle begins and the best price I've come across so far is 'Wordery' who sell via Amazon where the book is shipped from the UK. Price: £12.12 + £2.80 P&P. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/1785310607/ref=olp_tab_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new&qid=1443720996&sr=1-1

The Club have invited Chris to give a talk at one of their forthcoming Winter monthly lunches. The date set is October 28th. Is Jim May going to use this event to welcome Grizzly back into the family as the new head coach and to announce that Robinson is off to Chelmsford ? I'm sure Ronnie Irani has already been in touch with MR, but here's the job ad: www.essexcricket.org.uk/2015/09/28/vacancy-head-coach/Failing that, the ECB are currently headhunting for a coach for the England women's team. Robinson ( I don't know him personally, so I refrain from calling him 'Robbo') has been very successful at Sussex and nobody will forget the double of 2006 or the trophies that followed in 2007, 2008 and 2009. But Sussex have not won anything in six seasons in which performances have got steadily worse in all competitions. And that has been despite an unprercedented number of imported players from elsewhere. When Sussex last won the championship, the county did so with at least eight homegrown players who had never played for anybody else - Hopkinson, Kirtley, Lewry, RMJ, Nash, Hodd, Prior and Yardy. This season the only homegrown products who were regulars andf could be added to the old stagers of Nash and Yardy were, I think, Wells, Brown and Machan. That Sussex has marched backwards both in performance and in producing young players over the last decade is an undeniable fact. That doesn't make Mark Robinson a poor coach. But it might suggest that it is time for a change at the top as part of an essential process of reinvigoration.

Very interesting to look up David Hopps' preview of Sussex's prospects for 2015 on cricinfo. He earmarked Mills and Cachopa as the key players who would would keep Sussex in Div One and bring white ball success. Perhaps we would have been better eschewing such risky imported gambles and putting our faith in homegrown products like Hudson-Prentice and Finch instead?
I didn't say so at the time, I readily admit - so I can claim no great insight, only hindsight. But at least one poster on here called it. Take a bow, Fraudster...

Bm, You’re a tease and I won’t be drawn in! My brief penny’s worth is that Mark Robinson is an ‘untouchable’ at the club and will only leave at his own volition. He has an impressive and very accomplished CV, so finding another job won’t be difficult. The two you suggest at Essex and the England Women’s team are tempting for him but, like Adams, his heart lies with Sussex. Talking to supporters at the ‘Players Awards’ night the view is black and white. Some feel the coaching staff require a Spring clean, others said Robinson should be given an opportunity of bouncing Sussex straight back citing the injuries and the fact that 12 times out of the last 16 seasons, 161 points would have been enough to stay up. I am bias towards Adams as I believe he is the right man to offer that club Spring clean but am also aware that others do not agree. I am not the club Chairman. Jim May makes the final decision. If Robinson decides to remain then these would be my ‘Betfair’ odds for the Sussex coach next April. Jon Lewis is my second favourite. Robinson: Evens Lewis: 3-1 Adams: 6-1 Davis: 7-1 Hopkinson: 10-1There are alternatives of course. A special position could be created for Robinson at the Club as the ECB did for Giles Clarke. Perhaps, Director of Sussex Cricket, but then, where would the finance come from? If the money is available, this might allow someone like Jon Lewis to learn from Robinson’s experience and a smooth transition would occur.

My brief penny’s worth is that Mark Robinson is an ‘untouchable’ at the club The idea that anyone is "untouchable" is unprofessional. No individual is bigger than the institution that employs them, as arrogant captains of industry, greedy central bankers and out-of-touch Prime Ministers who spook their party by saying they intend to go "on and on and on" have all found out. Possibly the nearest to being "untouchable" was Ferguson at Manchester United. But Mark Robinson is surely not conceited enough to think that he is the Sir Alex of cricket... I'm not 'anti-Robinson'. I just think that after ten years in the same job producing diminshing results, a move to Essex or the England women's job would be a win-win-win situation - for him, for Sussex and for his new employer.

Where is our Gillespie, or our Benkenstein? Do they think the club will be tainted by outside influence?

These are just humble suggestions. I may be well off the mark. Everything is speculation until factual news appears in the media. Until then, we wait. Meantime, Lewis has been at the club for just two seasons, so the word 'incestuous' is surely not appropriate.

Grizzly bites and makes another veiled bid for Robinson's job: "I still follow Sussex intensely and I am gutted. It has been a while since there have been trophies at Sussex. It is time for an injection of something." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/34413399
