HAPPY NEW YEAR and welcome to 2019, where Sussex CCC are promoted to Division 1...
Meanwhile...

Jason Gillespie makes it crystal clear. There will be no new batsmen coming to Sussex CCC for the start of the 2019 season.

Jb,
One concern I have... what happens if Sussex are not promoted next season? How will supporters react to Gillespie's and Andrew's decision? If the Club are promoted then the duo will be viewed as heroes. Either way, 'if' Sussex go through a bad spell of losing or drawing matches, the pressure will truly be on them.

Will 'Sir' Alastair Cook become the damp media commentator squib that Andrew Strauss became? I very much hope not. The problem being... where does Cook now fit into the cricketing world? He shines 'establishment' through and through and is their present darling, just as Strauss who then ended up working for the ECB and made a good fist of it. Not sure where Cook's strength lies? I will be surprised if it is the media long-term. Perhaps, he will return to his farm and become a full-time lamb rearer? Although, is this acceptable enough for someone knighted, even though he is a fan of hunting and deer- stalking. Hold on, what about music? An able saxophone player and former chorister he used his music skills to contribute to Freefonix, a CBBC animated series with music-based adventures. Nah! Cook will end up as a cricket commentating duo with Bob 'boring' Willis. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/cricket/article-6542637/Sir-Alastair-Cook-join-BBC-Radio-5-Live-team-Englands-tour-West-Indies.html

There has been a distinct lack of English cricket ground snow scenes this winter, so how about this one from Afghanistan. Afghanistan Cricket Board TwitterA picturesque view of a snow-covered Kabul Cricket Stadium ! ❄️❄️

As we lurch into 2019 with political uncertainty heavily weighed on our shoulders, reflections on a cricketing 2018 have almost passed... but not quite. Here is a compiled list from the various journalists who write for The Cricketer Magazine on their standout players during 2018 and one England newcomer stands above the rest. Any idea who this might be? Perhaps, potentially, the most exciting all-rounder to appear in an England shirt since Ian Botham and yet he's still so damn young. Meanwhile, he's making a major impact at the BBL. www.thecricketer.com/Topics/countychampionship/the_stars_of_2018_our_writers_pick_their_standout_players_from_the_cricketing_year.html

His brother Tom is playing and is doing well.

Joe,
Quite correct. It is hard to keep up with the Curran Bros. It is Sam Curran who was picked up by Kings XI Punjab in the IPL auction for around £800,000 to play in this impending season and Tom who is presently playing for the Sydney Sixers in the BBL. The last such talented English cricketing brothers were Adam and Ben Hollioake, although that ended in tragedy. Let us pray the same doesn't happen to the Currans. Meanwhile, Zimbabwean father Kevin died from a heart-attack whilst jogging at the young age of 53 years-old.
Interestingly, his third son, Ben and the middle Curran brother, plays for Northants as a left-handed batsman and has been completely overshadowed by his two other brothers. Ben Curran has represented the 'MCC Young Cricketers' and played for the Notts 2nd XI. He made his 1st class debut against Durham on 29th August 2018 and scored 83 in the final match of last season against Sussex.
Q: Has any International cricketing side ever included 3 brothers?

England played 3 Grace brothers in the first Test held in the UK (1880): www.espncricinfo.com/series/17724/scorecard/62399/england-vs-australia-only-test-australia-tour-of-england-1880Sadly it was GF Grace's last ever game as he died shortly afterwards.
