A Cricket Tea Party Revolt _______________________ (The Times Newspaper) The tradition of serving egg and cress sandwiches, sausage rolls and slices of Victoria sponge has come under threat after the Sussex Cricket League, the largest recreational league in the country, voted by 114 votes to 89 to remove the requirement for clubs to provide teas. But wait, a rebellion is under way. Below are just a couple of examples.

I don't reckon Mitch Claydon will be winning this one.

And S&F, and... he lives on Cook Street in Lunchborough - weird.
Talking of weird, despite this week being one of the worst for Covid related deaths since the football season restarted, last season, fans are welcomed back to the PL today. If they can come in now, up to 2000 of them, why on earth couldn't they come in when the last season restarted, when the Covid numbers were miniscule in comparison? And when this season started, when the numbers were also much lower?
P.S. Does anyone want any vaccine? Cos I got loads of it here. It doesn't taste as nice as I was expecting.

Given the "abnormal period of history" the world is experiencing, one expects a certain craziness to surface, but this latest, some might even suggest, extreme response from Cricket South Africa (CSA), is puzzling. England quite rightly abandoned the ODI series (3 matches) after one South African player and two members of their staff were shown to be positive for Covid-19. What didn't help were allegations made previously by the England team that South African cricketers were showing scant regard for social distancing regulations outside of the bio-secure bubble. What followed was a seemingly amicable statement released by Cricket South Africa and the ECB suggesting the decision to call off the matches was a joint one. Yet, now we learn, CSA are angry about England walking away and feels there was no reason for England to return home prematurely. CSA interim Board Chairman, Zak Yacoob, complained, "What I want to negate is an idea that our provision of services was substandard and that there is any justification for the English saying they did not want to participate and go home. The fact is that they were very negative." Yacoob continued, "We have gone into our protocols and we think they have been very good. There may have been an issue of psychological troubles, where people may have been nervous about false positives." Umm, so blame the England's "psychological state of mind"... I see. Yacoob goes on to say, "We do not wish to blame the English, but we wish to say absolutely that any notion that they went away because there was a fault on our side is completely wrong. In fact, we were too lax with their desire to do things which in our strict view they should not be doing." Adding, "If they say lies about us, we will defend ourselves." Wow! So the England squad are not only psychologically frail, but liars too! Meanwhile, England have wasted little time confirming their plans for the winter with two Tests against Sri Lanka followed by a multi-format tour of India in 2021 now booked. South Africa can go to Covid hell.
3-0, 3-0, 3-0... 3-0, 3-0, 3-0...

Below is the Winter Newsletter from the Sussex CCC Museum. The Newsletter is 8 pages in length and spread over several posts. It is surprising how much news there is given the lockdown this year.
