Re Chris Westcott's forthcoming talk of cricket at the Saffrons, I wonder if he was there in 1972 when Pat Pocock broke 3 records on his way to a final innings analysis of 7-11 in one of the craziest and most exciting draws ever, between Sussex and Surrey. Young teenage spectators in those days included erstwhile Eastbourne Grammar School pupils, Bobby Parks and Academic and Banking guru, Sir John Vickers. static.espncricinfo.com/db/ARCHIVE/1970S/1972/ENG_LOCAL/CC/SUSSEX_SURREY_CC_12-15AUG1972.htmlMy elderly neighbour gave me an old hardback autobiography by Pat Pocock and back in 1995 he was playing for an Old England team at Princes Park in Eastbourne. I decided to pop down and get him to sign the book during a rain break which he obliged pleased that someone had "bought" his publication asking what I thought of it? I felt somewhat tongue tied and a bit of a prat because I couldn't remember anything that stood out, not that it was a bland read but I had a bit of a brain freeze. I even forgot to tell him that I had witnessed his exploits over 2 decades earlier.

The Adelaide Strikers begin the BBL tournament, not so much with a scorched earth policy, but more a "hot tippy-toes" Strictly Come Dancing version. Rashid Khan is bowling. Unfortunately, Dizzy's side lost the match by 11 runs. Phil Salt scored just 8 runs and Danny Briggs was met with an Hobart batsmen onslaught. Figures of 0-28 off 2.1 overs. Ouch!
PS: Briggs scored 35* off 18 balls, making up for his poor bowling.

Adelaide Strikers Poor Start to Big Bash League 2020/21 ____________________________________________________Gillespie has left Hove never to return, but in his bid for success in this year's BBL, one present Sussex player and one former has joined him in his quest. Phil Salt made an impression in his first BBL tournament for the Adelaide Strikers last year, so it was no surprise to see him return. Unfortunately, his early fortunes at the crease reflect the Strikers poor start. Three matches played and Salt has amassed 8,6 and 28. Danny Briggs, now at Warwickshire, has faired worse. Over 3 matches he has bowled just 4.1 overs at a cost of 48 runs with no wickets. Even Rashid Khan is struggling. His tally is 12 overs, 3 wickets at 99 runs. These poor to average performances have led to the Strikers winning just 1 game out of the first 3, where the side lies in 5th position. Due to a change in rules, teams this year are awarded additional points for run-rates and scores after various number of overs bowled. This has helped the Strikers push up their total to 5 points. While it is early days, normally the Strikers come out of the blocks sprinting and towards the end lose momentum. Perhaps, Dizzy has crafted an opposite assault this year? Losing Captain Travis Head to Australia hasn't helped, although there are calls to drop him from the Test squad. Tablewww.cricbuzz.com/cricket-series/3248/big-bash-league-2020-21/points-table

Is this the worst umpiring decision of 2020? ____________________________________
Surely, this must rank as a contender for the worst umpiring decision of 2020? And how embarrassing for Danny Briggs that his first "wicket" of the BBL tournament happens to be this "howler".

Salty scores his first 50 of the BBL tournament (51) and Rashid Khan goes ferrel at the end of the Adelaide Strikers batting innings against the Perth Scorchers scoring 29 runs off just 13 balls. Final tally is 165. Can the AS now defend this total?
Looking good as the Scorchers are presently 48-5 and where Briggs gets a "genuine" wicket. (Now 64-6 off 10.3 overs). Jason Roy plays for the Scorchers and hit 21 off 11 balls in this game.
(This match is presently live on BT Sport)
Meanwhile, many congrats to Khan.

A trouncing by the Adelaide Strikers as the weakest side of the tournament, the Perth Scorchers, are all out for 94 off just 15.2 overs (win by 71 runs). Briggs takes 2-8 off 3 overs, so both he and Salt have come to the BBL party.
Meanwhile, the Strikers leap up to 1st position after 5 games (3 wins) on 13 points, given all the additional tally gains from this drubbing. Teams below them have played one less match.

Rashid Khan was on fire yesterday with both ball and bat. Let us hope he rediscovers this flair for Sussex next summer.

Alex 'enfant terrible' Hales scores a fifty in just 21 balls for the Sydney Thunder. This is a new record for the BBL side.
Hales personal fastest fifty came in a T20 match in June, 2010 when playing for Nottinghamshire v Derbyshire at Trentbridge. Number of balls? 16.
Q: When are the ECB going to forgive Hales from his previous misdemeanour/s? Or are there things we don't know about? He deserves an England recall.
PS: The World record for the fewest balls is held by three people: Uvraj Singh, Chris Gayle and Hazratullah Zazai. All have scored 50 or more in just 12 balls. Amazing!
Will someone ever strike a fifty in the fewest balls possible which is 9?

This must give hope to all young bowlers out there. Even the best of them make an a*se of it on occasions. A no-ball or a wide, that is the question?
