A useful start for Sakande playing for Oxford MCCU against Middlesex: 2-21 in 10 overs as Middlesex closed at 98-6 chasing 124. Sakande's two wickets were Nick Compton and Andy Balbirnie, recently one of Ireland's World Cup heroes.

Big season for Sakande. By most loyal source of information, The Mighty Thor, thinks that Sakande made good strides last season. He needs to translate more of that to the seconds asap.

Wouldn't it be good, CP, if one of them broke through to join Matt Hobden as a home-grown quickie.....and no, I don't mind which one!

Wouldn't it be good, CP, if one of them broke through to join Matt Hobden as a home-grown quickie.....and no, I don't mind which one! I have seen quite a lot of these three as well as George Garton and Tim Moses and of the five I rate Garton as the best prospect. His performances over the last three years at age group level of 738 runs @ 31 and 77 wickets @ 22 have been nothing short of exceptional. What Garton, Moses, Sakande, Whittingham and Grant need is to be playing regular second team cricket this season.

Good news. We now have a cupboard full of young quicks, thanks I'm sure in part to Jon Lewis. I would expect Delray Rawlings to be signed too but where are all the young batters? Is this a reflection of not having a batting coach?

Is this a reflection of not having a batting coach? Well he has been, according to the linked story in the Bermuda press here unofficialsussexccc.freeforums.net/post/21513/threadI think the batting issue in the past certainly has been about young batsmen , such as Thornely and Gatting, getting a start but not developing, and the lack of a permanent batting coach will not have helped them cope with all the concerns about adjusting technique as bowlers find out their weasknesses, etc.

Welcome to the club Abi. Seen a bit of this young lad over the last couple of years, while he's been up at Oxford. At times he's looked very impressive

Thanks hh, I missed that. Why on earth have Sussex not announced this yet?
Anyway, good news!

Is this a reflection of not having a batting coach? The young batters are there, we just ain't secured them yet - except Rawlins, maybe. I expect Sussex will make an announcement on that in the coming years.
Haines and Jenner, along with Rawlins, are the lads who have shown the most with the bat who ain't already pro - get 'em in. Stock your squad with young home-grown prospects. They won't all make it but it's cheap and it's the best way of making sure some make it. That and getting a *** batting coach. Which should be our number one priority, in most peoples' view I suspect.
Good luck Sakande.
