Worcester will never have a better opportunity to win a match in Division one. They played a Yorkshire side without it's suspended Captain and 6 other first teamers away in the West Indies. Then Sidebottom got injured and was unable to bowl in the second innings. Moen Ali made what will probably be a rare appearance for Worcester yet they still contrived to lose inside three days by 10 wickets. This is a truly awful result for them and could seriously damage morale. I predict a Northamptonshire like season for Worcester. If "searchers" is still on this forum I would be interested in his views.

Two words may save them: Saeed Ajmal.

His "remodelled" action has yet to be seen to be successful. I agree the Ajmal of last season would have made a significant difference. In fact it was 75% responsible for their promotion. Once he left they fell away alarmingly and only just scraped second place ahead of Essex. They are a very poor team.

The point about this result is not just the devastation felt by Worcester but it also gives enormous momentum to Yorkshire. To win so easily without so many first team players will give them great strength and I fear when the absentees return they will prove unstoppable. The next two matches for Yorkshire (Notts away & Warwick home) will go a long way to indicating the destiny of this seasons championship.

You fear? Yorks will know what you know about Worcs. As you say, their next two are huge, I think they'll lose them both. That's because of their absentees, who they may not get back. Mind you, if England aren't even prepared to try two of them you should get them back. Imagine you'll get Jonny back too now that my brain's working - alright you'll get loads back, but before then you're up against it, when you ain't playing Worcs.

I hope that you are right fraudster and that Yorkshire do lose a couple of games. Otherwise it is going to be a very dull championship. For the record I watch my cricket at Headingley because it is where I live. I do not support Yorkshire. Perish the thought.

Oh right, thought you were tut Yorkie. Hundred years ago you would have been but since cars have taken over from horses we see all sorts of people in all sorts of places - what a world we live in.
So anywho, Notts have started well against those dominant Yorkies, hopefully they can crush them before the rest of their crew turn up on their horses.

Ton for Hales, a player I like a lot. And, look who it's against, smashing. I do like Yorks but I too hope it isn't a one-horse race. I never have and still don't think it will be to be honest.

If Worcestershire are doomed what are Sussex?

Lets revisit this at the end of the season. Unless Worcester are relegated it will have been a very strange season.

This looks like the appropriate place and time to write the "Surrey's challenge for promotion over for another year" piece. Certainly Essex have taken their bowling to task with big hundreds for the promising Browne, and for the 17-year old, Lawrence, all rubbed in with 50s from Ryder, Smith, and a characteristic outburst of bravado from Napier. Whatever the strength of Surrey's batting, none of Curran, Dunn and Dernbach made the slightest impression, and there cannot be any rationale beyond sentiment for picking Ansari for any kind of England representative side.
Now with Sangakkara out, Pietersen will have to play a long and watchful innings, and Davies will have to show his double hundred of the other day wasn't entirely down to friendly Welsh pitches and bowlers. Surrey are a very mixed bag again , after their years of dominance in the 90s and early part of this century, and it is very hard to know what the true strength of the team is. Of course their biggest problem is that they are money-spinners; whatever they do on the field, The Oval will make money, one way or another, and this kind of boardroom-led management can't be good for developing hard fighting cricketing talent.

The lead story on the YCCC website today is "We will continue to be positive". I hate hypocrisy. I was at Headingley yesterday and the time wasting tactics indulged in by Andrew Gale & his team in the morning would have made Brian Close blush. There were constant meetings to discuss intricate filed placings. Bowlers dawdled around and Hodd "forgot" that Middlebrook a spinner was bowling as he took up his position as if a pace bowler was on. If Warwickshire were doing half of this the crowd would have been in uproar.
I don't particularly blame Yorkshire for trying to get a draw considering they are so many players short. However I can't abide this nonsense they are peddling that the world is against them and they are whiter than white. Rant over.

It's a top rant, though lg. Made my morning!
The Hodd story is brilliant. I've seen a lot of time-wasting over the years but that's a new one on me...

That was a good rant. Fair enough too but if they're led by a Yorkie then whatever they do is right, even if it's wrong. That's my experience of Yorkies - they do make me laugh though.
With that sort of thing it's down to the umps to cut it out, when the players don't mind doing it, which they should. I'd have been all over Gale if I were a Warks player, and the umps.
