A new departure for this forum: the best, or most impressive player of the month in matches concluded up to this date. For April, this will be the 3 Championship games, plus the Leeds/Bradford game. Next month the focus will spread as the first T20s are played.

So, should it be Shahzad for topping the first-class wicket-takers and being cricinfo's Most Valuable Player? How about Machan for seizing his chance so brilliantly, setting up a victory platform in that match and contributing solidly to the next match? What about Luke Wright's tremendous hitting and big stands with the middle and lower order, setting a marker in the Hampshire game? Maybe Ben Brown for his 146 in that game and solid keeping throughout? Ed Joyce for his captaincy and 12 catches in the 4 games concluded? Not forgetting Ollie Robinson for his magnificent debut, Tymal Mills for his raw pace or Matt Hobden for his impressive start?
