I'm guessing this should be a pretty popular match given current circumstances. All thoughts and comments welcomed.

Yardy's bowling will be a big miss in this one. Not a like for like, but I'm going for Piolet as a straight replacement. Maybe we might be tempted to promote Jordan to give the batting some oomph, as a pinch hitter, following his exploits today

I agree with Jonboy's selection of Piolet to replace Yardy.

If he isn't needed for the Test it might be better to let him make his way back at leisure to play in the championship game at Trent Bridge for Monday.

Squad announcement www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/preview-natwest-t20-blast-returns-to-friday-nights-at-hoveThe Sussex squad is as follows: WAT Beer BC Brown C Cachopa HZ Finch DPMD Jayawardena CJ Liddle MW Machan TS Mills CD Nash SA Piolet OE Robinson LJ Wright (c) MH Yardy "Matt Machan and Michael Yardy are included in the squad and face fitness tests on their calf injuries, whilst Jordan is in the England squad for the Second Test against New Zealand." Was Mark Robinson being mischievous, misinformed or just plain wrong when he told the Members Forum on Monday that Yardy's calf injury would see him out for the next 6 weeks?

The original diagnosis was six weeks off and we do not know if he will be fit to play after one week

The original diagnosis was six weeks off and we do not know if he will be fit to play after one week So why is he included "subject to tests" if the diagnosis is 6 weeks? Surely that is pointless and unhelpful to both player and customers?

Let's hope he wasn't given that diagnosis from the same medic who said Shahzad would be out for a week to ten days

I just assume that, when you read Jim's very helpful post about Mike Yardy's injury, you missed out his second word.
There is no conspiracy, its not unhelpful....... the original prognosis was 6 weeks. Since the forum on Monday, that has changed and Mike will indeed have a fitness test ahead of the game tomorrow. Happy days.

Given Yardy's miracle recovery I'm half expecting a story about him being able to walk on water next week!
My XI would be:
Nash Wright (c) Jayawardene Cachopa Machan Yardy Brown (+) Beer Robinson Piolet Mills

Jon, have you considered what damage the club medical advisors could wreak to the economy, if applied on a national scale? "That's a nasty strain: I'm going to sign you off for 6 weeks, but don't worry you'll be all right to play cricket next Friday". Entire industries would cease to operate, the pharmacies would be emptied, the sickness benefit claims would rocket and the deficit be doubled overnight. Meanwhile the streets are thronged with the over-enthgisiastically diagnosed, keen to pursue their new-found fitness, cycling, hurdling, sprinting, leaping everywhere. Seriously, I'm obviously delighted that a key, and well-loved player, may be ready to play much sooner than anticipated, but doesn't that cast just a tiny scintilla of doubt over some of Mark's pronouncements? When he says Shahzad is two weeks away from playing (and when he said it, it was already two weeks after it was originally announced it would be 6 days), should we now prepare to see him play in Nottingham? Will we have a half a dozen fit seamers queueing up in the nets ready to displace the young pretenders Hobden and Robinson?

My XI would be: Nash Wright (c) Jayawardene Cachopa Machan Yardy Brown (+) Beer Robinson Piolet Mills Sources at the club have been quoted as saying he is still some weeks away from such feats. Perhaps water into Harvey's is more realistic at this stage.

That looks a reasonable side to me, perhaps not one that will fill the ground, but one that could get a result

To be fair to Robbo, muscle strain/pull/tear is not an exact science. One can only estimate a recovery time which can have many variables dependent on many factors.
I hope we haven't lost Jordan to drinks duties.
