I take your point s&f but if every unexpected twist is to be viewed as suspect then we might as well all take our bats home for good.

Lg,
Primarily, it is Pakistan where I have my regular doubts. Their history of match-fixing is pretty awful. Other countries don't me bother as much. I am very interested to see what comes out during the Chris Cairns trial and whether this may lead to other court cases. Vincent's ex-partner is giving evidence next week.

The Chris Cairns perjury trial faces a week of fantasy and make believe as Cairns refutes all the charges his fellow Kiwi-men made about him under oath. You can swear blind 'til the cows come home but Cairns only defence is that the present New Zealand Captain is delusional and a liar, and that Vincent is a mental case and a fantasist. Then, when you add the fringe comments from the likes of Vettori to Ponting, there is obviously a massive cricketing conspiracy to nail Cairns for something he never did. I am neither a judge nor a barrister and my knowledge of the perjury law is flimsy but the idea that Cairns may be acquitted makes my blood boil. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34714197

The Chris Cairns perjury trial continues this week with the former Kiwi Captain maintaining his innocence. The most comprehensive news comes from the New Zealand and overseas press. This week crown prosecutor Sasha Wass, QC, has been like a rottweiler in court, attacking Cairns at every level. He's stumbled, froze, remained quiet and was reprimanded by the judge for evading questions. This is more like it! www.stuff.co.nz/sport/cricket/73703673/chris-cairns-trial-former-black-cap-testy-under-crossexaminationHis wife was then crossed-examined but she too pleaded innocence for her husband. www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11540831 Here is a flavour of the trial this week reported in 'The Guardian'. When chatting with Ed Hawkins, he explained Dubai was/is a haven for cricket match-fixers as they could launder their dirty money by purchasing property there as a company was specifically set up to help them achieve this. The court heard Cairns, 45, was paid more than US$250,000 by Vijay Dimon, a diamond firm run by the father and son Vijay and Vishal Shah. The New Zealander had previously met Vishal Shah during a charity cricket event.
Cairns said the money was to set himself up in Dubai, which had a “brutal” rental market, where he worked for the business by meeting clients, speaking at dinners and acting as an ambassador.
However, Wass said: “I am going to suggest it was a reward for your part in fixing matches.” Wass said Cairns had told his fellow cricketers Lou Vincent and Brendon McCullum they could earn tens of thousands of dollars for fixing games and that everyone was doing it.
As Cairns repeatedly denied the suggestions, she added: “You had a piece of the pie, didn’t you? You had a very fat piece of the pie.”
Cairns replied: “I was trying to create a career post-cricket, trying to become involved in their business.”www.theguardian.com/sport/2015/nov/04/chris-cairns-match-fixing-court-new-zealandMy biggest concern is there is no solid or concrete evidence yet to show that Cairns fixed matches. At present, it his word against others combined with hearsay. Where are the actual facts?

The third match in the Pakistan v England ODI series is now under official investigation for match-fixing, according to Ed Hawkins... Now, in my official capacity of lollipop lady I cross a young dad and his two kids over and we often chat about the cricket. When he mentioned this game I said to him maybe they threw it and he laughed. I'm sorry to say though that I am always suspicious when Pakistan is involved, which is sad but inevitable result of past misdeeds by some of their team members.

Unfortunately, the Chris Cairns perjury case is not as clear cut as one hoped as the Jurors were sent home for the weekend after failing to reach a verdict on their second day of deliberations. The worst case scenario is that Cairns will not be found guilty of perjury and the whole horrible, appalling, match-fixing mess will be buried once more, much to the relief of cricket and no doubt many guilty players, while the Asian underworld can carry on with their sickening and corrupt ways with impunity. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/34950619

I guess that is what happens when you have people who may know nothing about cricket deciding such matters. The whole unsavoury business continues with no one called to account.
