So many county players go out to Australia to play grade cricket in our winter ... but this is possibly the first time that they have gone on to play Sheffield shield. Great achievement.

2-50 in the first South Australia innings in two spells, totalling 9.1 overs. NSW look as if they are on their way to a big first innings lead so perhaps Cranbe will get a longer bowl with plenty of runs to play with next innings. The NSW attack looks to be pretty competent - Cummins, Copeland and Bollinger - and the other spinner in the side is a 32 year old offspinner, Somerville, who seems to have had a very successful first full season, having made his debut in New Zealand as long ago as 2005.

Maybe we're doing with Will Beer what NSW have done with Jimmy Somerville. And if Beer does what Jimmy has done I will finally have the last laugh.
Why ain't NSW had an OS since 1984? Bunch of in-breds, they're more racist than I am.

Good enough for England not good enough for Sussex seemingly! Did we turn him down? Was with Sussex age groups until he was 13, born in Sussex, lives in Sussex, went to school in Sussex. Unfortunately Kieth Greenfield and the other youth coaches at the time decided he wasn't good enough so sent him packing. Was picked up by Raj Maru at Lancing College, introduced to Hants and the rest is history.

I don't think showering blame around because one individual slipped through our net is fair. All young sportsmen develop at different speeds (or not at all) and criticism about the handling of Crane is probably unjustified. The fact that he was born and bred in Sussex makes it frustrating, but no more than that. I think criticism only becomes reasonable if there have been many misjudgements or our record is significantly worse than most other counties. I suspect every county has similar stories.

Yes, I'd say Surrey releasing Jordan then him being in the England squad within a season was a far greater case to answer than judging a 13 year old wouldn't make the cut.
