As soft and fluffy has pointed out ( unofficialsussexccc.freeforums.net/post/11069/thread) a win in this game will guarantee a home quarter-final in the 12-15 August slot, bringing more cricket to Hove in the peak holiday month of the year. Hampshire have just lost to Gloucestershire in rather supine fashion, despite pyrotechnics from Carberry, so perhaps they will come back with something to prove. A journo's laptop maimed by a Carberry six - watch out fluffy, iPads are not immune.

Yasir Arafat and Joe Gatting. Crane will be looking to push his claims for a Hampshire contract next season. I think he and Weatherley will both be added to their squad next season. Who will miss out for them will be interesting?

Well that looked like a cracking effort to be fair, Hants are a top side still. Good stuff, we go again. On form, an away tie might be good - the suits won't like it but f**k them muppets.

404 runs in 3 hours, the match had it all - great batting, a full house, fantastic atmosphere and Sid the Shark mauling a lion - except Sussex lost by 4 runs and not Hampshire. Top of the Southern table is tightly crunched and Sussex must beat Surrey at The Oval to not only gain a home QF but also to qualify. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoDh_gHDvkk

Went to Tunbridge Wells for a 5.30 game and watched Kent implode and throw away a wining position v Glamorgan - and blow me down the early start enabled me to get home in time to hear radio commentary of Sussex chucking it away almost as carelessly.
To be fair, Sussex had a bigger target to chase and it was a noble effort to get as close as they did. But both games were identical in the manner in which - as the cliche has it - 'all the hard work had been done' and yet both counties found ways to stuff it up.
It didn't matter for Kent; it was a dead rubber for they finish top of the group and get a home tie regardless. But if Sussex don't defeat Surrey at the Oval next Friday (tickets nearly sold out, if anyone is thinking of going) and other results go the wrong way, then Sussex could end up in sixth place.
Remaining games among the other four q/f contenders, all of whom could yet overtake Sussex:
Hampshire v Somerset max pts: 16
Essex v Kent max pts 16
Surrey v Middx and Sussex max pts: 16
Glamorgan v Glos: max pts16

Another great evening's entertainment at Hove. An agonisingly close defeat watched by another big crowd as attendances have been up some 20% this season.
Really pleasing to see the t20 side grow this season with a good amount of young players. Worth remembering that last autumn we thought the squad to select from would include Matt Prior, RHB, Ajmal Shazhad and Lewis Hatchett.
All to play for at the Oval- GOSBTS!!

All to play for at the Oval- GOSBTS!! Yes, the good thing is it is all in Sussex's own hands. Win at the Oval and a home q/f tie is guaranteed without worrying about results elsewhere.
