Another day, another competition. As Alex Hales has just tweeted: I'd be amazed if one cricketer in the country enjoys this schedule. Changing formats every week is detrimental to skill level.
At least it gives the excellent people at Horsham Sport Club a chance to show off their lovely ground again and cash in on the opportunities lost when Sussex crumbled on the third day of four in the championship game, although the weather forecast is currently a bit grim.
For the team itself intrigue will centre on Alfonso Thomas making debut on his loan period - just for the RLC or could it also cover the T20 QF now that Somerset no longer have any interest in it? - and also whether Tymal Mills' back can be nursed through 10 overs, or at least more than 4.

If we make finals day, then the final, Mills will bowl more than four in a day anyway, presumably.
The scheduling makes no sense to anyone does it. If they want to replicate international cricket then simply play all comps in one block, or at least the limited overs stuff. I've never known an international tour to flit between formats.
As for this comp, if only we had CJ and Shahzad we'd be one of the favourites. Though they would make that much difference in all forms and are arguably the difference between a relegation scrap and a title push in 4 day cricket - so some sympathy for the management there.
The Overtons and Gregory of Zum are a country mile ahead of Garton & Co so no real comparison to be made there but I wish we'd just try one of them if needed - don't think they are needed anyway. I would play a couple of other teens though, through choice.

The weather forecast for this match is absolutely dire. If Fraudy's personal forecast is any better, I might decide to go tomorrow.

Not much hope from the weather, and Sussex have not revealed a lot about their planning in naming just about every every fit player in the squad for the game: GJ Bailey WAT Beer BC Brown C Cachopa HZ Finch ME Hobden EC Joyce (c) CJ Liddle MW Machan TS Mills CD Nash SA Piolet OE Robinson AC Thomas LJ Wright MH Yardy This one doesn't include the idea of Jordan as a batsman that was floated in the wake of the cancelled Surrey T20 game. He is still listed as injured along with Ajmal Shahzad, Jimmy Anyon and Luke Hatchett. Note also that Ed Joyce "returns... to captatin the side in this format". I thought that Luke Wright had been appointed one-day captain, and had done rather well in T20, so a bit surprising not to have him as captain for 50 overs. www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/preview-sharks-aiming-for-flying-start-in-royal-london-one-day-cup

John Lees has left his microphone on (not the first time!) if anyone wants to eavesdrop. . . www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/cricket/33609170just heard him say that the minimum match allowed is 10 overs per side, and the latest start time is 4:45. He assumes 2 hours to dry out and clear up after the rain stops, so the rain has to stop for good by 2:30 - 2:45.
