In only 3 overs, we lost the last 5 wickets for 16 runs, and we still had 9 unused overs at the end. That's one hell of a collapse.

That's a heavy, heavy defeat and a demoralising start to the competition. Let's give the white ball captaincy back to Wright; Joyce has lost seven of his last ten matches in charge. Hants played three proper spinners, who took eight wickets. Sussex left out Beer and Zaidi and relied on two part-timers, Wells and Nash. As for Cachopa,no one doubts Brown is the better keeper. But on this season's form he's also the better batsman:- Cachopa three fifties in 29 innings - Brown two centuries plaus three fifties in 26 innings. But I fully expect Cachopa to keep for the remaining six games in the 50 overs cup because when Robinson and Joyce get one of their "notions" into their heads, they tend not to stop until they have tested it to destruction. Brown averages 4.4 with the bat in T20 this year.

Interestingly there were 2 wickets and a catch from Mason Crane and 3 catches from Joe Gatting, that's 6 wickets to two players that Sussex let go!

6-47 for Dawson. I can't see Hampshire releasing him with two years on his contract. They are more likely to extend his contract than release him. As for Gatting's catches it's not difficult when the batsmen are dumb enough to hit straight down his throat. I expect all teams to play three spinners against us as it clear we don't have a clue how to play spin. Is that because our coach has a complete disregard for it?

And he has scored two centuries and almost 700 runs in the CC at a higher average than every Sussex batsman bar Machan and Wright - so I'm not quite sure what is the point of your comment!

Brown averages 4.4 with the bat in T20 this year. I would give Whacko a dig, he's in some form at a lower level. A level where Brown is now and Cachopa has been a lot. But Brown if not, he's obviously the superior wicky of all three. I believe we should have played Beer, Yardy, Piolet and Brown (Jackson) instead of Wells, Cachopa, Liddle and Thomas - which would have meant stronger batting and bowling, that's how badly I think we got it wrong. I'm also a little confused as to why we changed the order of a very successful top three for a good couple of seasons - Joyce opening, Wright at three. Another thing that puzzles me is our OS choice, not the form, his attributes. For a time we've had a lot of batters, albeit faltering, but that's nothing compared to our bowling woes which have so far resulted in three pointless loans and another pointless signing of a div 2 flop. Should have an OS bowler playing right now, even Mags. I guess we put the same amount of emphasis on foreseeing future issues as we do foreseeing future teams.

The selection didn't look too clever at the start and now it looks downright dumb!

I think it goes some way to explaining his omission from the one-day squad. And I'd say that coming to the wicket in the 18th over in a T20 match and having to try to hit his first ball out of the ground has nothing to do with the job he could do in 50 overs cricket, and that his form in the CC - where the average Sussex innings has probably lasted no more than 50-60 overs - is far more relvant to the task in hand!
