20s apiece for Salt and Finch, shame neither could go on a little longer. Now it's down to Machan, Bailey and Cachopa as the senior players to make us competitive.

Just a word to anyone thinking of going to the match later - the rain radar currently shows persistent rain arriving around 4:00 and lasting for several hours. Sorry, but it might save you a journey.

Are there many spectators today? Yes, I'd be interested to know that. I'd love to know the motives of today's spectators (both of them?). I can't understand why anyone would have travelled any distance to get to the match today. Even if you wanted to sit through 100 overs of a dead rubber,it was quite clear that the rain would ruin it.

Actually there was a surprisingly good crowd; not sure I would have bought a ticket given the forecast.

Where is Hudson-Prentice? He could have played instead of Machan or Cachopa. Liddle should miss out. We want to see what Garton and Hatchett can do because they are the future. Garton has been recalled into the England U19 squad for their last two ODI's tomorrow and Saturday. I guess that's why he didn't play today. ive seen him play a few times and he's a decent prospect, I just hope the right coaches can bring him on and we don't lose him to another county.

I went with some friends today and had a fun time. Amongst various jaunts I spent part of the afternoon in the museum where I watched the video of Sussex on the road during 2007 which, of course, ended in us winning our third Championship trophy.
Ahh, those were the days!

Thanks for letting me know about this. I agree about him being a decent prospect. In fact I would go as far as to say he is the best seam bowling prospect we have.

H-P is with the seconds at Canterbury. Machan is captaining, because he's the most senior regular there and its a good career option to give him that chance. Liddle is in for Garton, which doesn't help matters - but I don't think Hatchett is the future. To say I don't think Hatchett is the future is a little harsh considering he has been injured for most of the season.

I don't think Hatchett is the future because he has has been around the team for 5 years now and I've watched him and hoped for some development either of pace or movement. Last year he had a good run and displayed neither of those things. I think he's quite competent and would have been a useful back up player this year, but I wouldn't regard him as the future of Sussex bowling.

I think this season has showed you need good backup because Hobden was eighth choice seamer going into this season and been a virtual ever present in the championship this season.
