I can see sense in the signing Not sure he'll be our saviour but the fact is, we needed to do something. What were the alternatives, could we seriously have included Will in a four man attack at Arundel? Hopefully Tredwell will give us some sort of control alongside the pace of Magoffin, Anyon and, please, please, Hatchet

It's the control as much as the wicket-taking ability Sussex is borrowing. Unless Tredwell really has lost all ability to bowl with a red ball and proves to be no better than Zaidi, the expectation is that the initial month-long loan will be extended. The KCCC website says :"During the loan period Tredwell will continue to play for Kent Spitfires in the T20 Blast and Royal London Cup." Well the 50 overs RL Cup doesn't start until the end of July and if all goes according to plan, Kent anticipate he will still be at Hove when it gets underway...

Although presumably there are break clauses in case he starts taking wickets and they want him back.
I've seen Will Beer in red ball cricket for the last three summers and he has never looked ready to be the sole spinner for Sussex. No shame in that (and is the same position as england 'prospects') but I struggle to accept the rage of others on not playing him!

If we operated a five man attack, I'm sure Beer would have had more chances, but to be able to do that, you need a solid top order. Our top order, however talented, is simply not reliable enough for us to contemplate five bowlers

Although presumably there are break clauses in case he starts taking wickets and they want him back. Kent have the right to call him back at any time. But Tredwell is likely to remain surplus to requirements at Canterbury unless something dramatic happens to current first choice off-spinner Adam Riley:- a) He gets injured b) He gets called up to play v India in the forthcoming Test series c) He loses form as county batsmen begin to 'find him out'. On today's showing, (c) is perhaps the most likely. Having bowled with considerable control all season so far, the ECB's spin supremo Peter Such turned up to have a look at Riley at Cardiff today on behalf of Team England - and sod's law, the poor lad had a stinker, going for almost 100 runs at five an over. As for Tredwell, I'd suggest his batting today - just about his best in three years - showed the benefit of bringing in someone in who is not tainted by having been part of a demoralised dressing room. Hopefully he can lift a few others, too. Looking forward to seeing him bowl tomorrow and keeping it tight at one end while Joyce rotates the seamers from the other - a luxury the captain hasn't had since the sacking of Panesar.
