Where does this leave our attempts to sign him as our front line spinner? Robinson said around a month ago we were after an overseas spinner to finish off the season with but what's the plan for next season?

As I recall it the interest was because his wife, an equestrian performer, was training at Hickstead and it was hoped to find a club for him to play for. Apparently there was no interest, and beyond that one substitute fielding performance that was it. (http://unofficialsussexccc.freeforums.net/post/9586/thread)

(http://unofficialsussexccc.freeforums.net/post/9586/thread) Wasn't it case of it being too late, clubs had already committed to their professionals? Next season might be different though and he could come here as our overseas. If we are one of the counties who have entered into negotiations with SA players who are prepared to Kolpak, we could see the arrival of two Saffers. I would have thought it unlikely that Harmer might Kolpak, as he has just broken into the South Africa side. Jaques Kallis, on the other hand, might find a stint in county cricket quite appealing. Certainly, those two would cure our lack of balance issues, allowing us to play five bowlers most of the time.

Will this guy be our next overseas? It's no secret that we were keen on him last season, and even though I don't see him as an attacking spinner, he probably ticks a few of the right boxes. A steady off spinner who has broken into the South African side, he can comfortably bat at six or seven and is, by all accounts, an excellent fielder. I gather his partner is over here in Hickstead. If we aim to play four front line seamers, he might offer us the variation we missed last season. In short, we could cover two of our problem positions with one player.

Yes, his form has been pretty indifferent recently, bizarrely culminating in his recent Test call up. Previously he'd been batting at 6 or 7 for Warriors, but following a run of poor scores, he's dropped down the order

This guy is incredibly ordinary, for an overseas star. If we go with a spinner, why not Chawla again. He's far from ordinary, great to watch, and going on memory from his first and last stint with us, an absolute match winner. He's the fella we should want as a spinner.

Can't be that old, but I've not seen him involved with India for ages now

I believe he's still playing domestic and IPL while flirting with the Indian selectors from time to time. He played ten games at the last IPL for KKR and he played his last list A game this year too. In that list A game he did the leggie classic - 1-96 off 19 first innings, 5-67 off 18 the second. Match winner. Scored 70 odd runs first innings at nine too. His team won, wasn't needed second time round, thanks to his golden arm. Sold yet?

It's been three years since Chawla played for India so I don't think he'd be eligible. Harbhajan might be a more likely candidate.

The one man who could make me shut up about Beer. Those frigging rules are utterly ridiculous if he can't play and need changing badly. It has to be simple to lock out a multitude of Kolpaks but still be able to invite some top quality legitimate overseas to play. Incidentally, he'll be 27 next season, amazingly. Oh and I mean first class not list A.

Simon Harmer reminds me of a Paul Harris type of spinner - quite solid, steady and could hold an end up. If we are looking at Indian spinners why don't we try and get Amit Mishra?
