I think there could be a number of changes to the Women's squad for 2016 not just because Alexia Walker and Holly Colvin are retiring and Anna Harris returning to Buckinghamshire but because several other players (Elwiss, Green, Janman, Noakes and Phelps) failed to perform. Elwiss, Green and Noakes were particularly disappointing.
My 17 strong squad for the Womens 1XI for 2016 would be:
Sarah Taylor (c, +) Georgia Adams Flora Bertwistle Ellie Botting Ella Bourne Ellen Burt Izzy Collis Freya Davies Abbey Freeborn (+) Nancy Harman Ella McCaughan Tara Norris Eleanor Robinson Paige Scholfield Coco Streets Ella Wadey Hollie Young
14 of the above 17 bowl giving captain Sarah Taylor plenty of bowling options regardless of who is playing.

I know I'm a bit late to this but dropping a current England player for a 12 year old seems a bit extreme...

Ella is one of the brightest prospects coming through the Sussex ranks and I think if you're good enough, you're old enough. In any case Elwiss won't be dropped now because she is captain.
I think my squad showed that with Flora, Ellie, Ella, Ellen, Nancy, Ella, Tara, Eleanor, Coco, Ella and Hollie we certainly have a number of promising cricketers coming through. I certainly feel out of these that Flora Bertwistle, Ella Bourne, Ella McCaughan and Coco Streets should be pushing for Academy selection for 2017. Eleanor Robinson and Hollie Young have started well this season.

Purely out of interest, what happens when a ball goes vertically up from the splice and the captain shouts out to the fielders "Yours, Ell!"?

I notice Sussex women play two games at Hove today but the entrance is free. Where does the revenue for the women's game come from?

I notice Sussex women play two games at Hove today but the entrance is free. Where does the revenue for the women's game come from? The short answer is that there is no traditional revenue stream. There are subventions from ECB and from Sussex Cricket Ltd, and a main sponsor is Aldridge sussex-wca.co.uk/sponsors.html

If it's free entry it gives the wrong impression i.e that the cricket on show isn't worth paying for. A nominal fee would at least give some revenue back to the club.

I think it is important to have at least threshhold pricing for all forms of the game, womens and mens. I was having this discussion with a couple of other members of the forum at Tunbridge Wells earlier in the week during one of the many longeurs in the play and the suggestion was raised that in future, once franchises and new TV negotiations had released increased cash for ECB to distribute to the counties then the 4-day game should be free entry, as already happens in at least some Sheffield State sides. My point was that the vast majority of people have no respect for something that is free; they regard it with suspicion and disdain and need to feel it has some worth.

Sally Clarke, Ariana Dowse, Georgia Elwiss, Chiara Green, Linsey Smith, Bethany Tagg, Lucy Western and Danni Wyatt have also been selected. Botting, Robinson, Streets and Young haven't been selected.
