Excellent news about Taylor. More experience to add to the pool. Bad news is Machan. The latest I've heard is his injury is not improving after the operation and the levels of anxiety for his cricket career is increasing.Agreed. I was alarmed when I saw he had not been considered for the current round of games for Scotland against the Associates because of injury. That close to the English season it doesn't sound good, and at the risk of saying I Told You So...that is why I felt we needed batsmen, not more all-rounders in the squad. Hope that I'm wrong and that he makes a good come-back and finds form quickly.

Am I living in another reality? Is this Forum? So was Steve Hollis' story last week merely speculation? The news of Ross Taylor is old hat, surely, and yet it is being trumpeted by Sussex CCC as hot off the press. Ah, now I've got it. Last week's Argus story wasn't a scoop but ALTERNATIVE news!

There is a bit of a trend here for Sussex's carefully stage-managed announcements to become damp squibs. If you remember the story of Wiese's contract was widely available through South African news sources, with full documentation, for several days before Sussex ran another 9 am "Swoop". Either there is much greater openness these days in the contacts between journalists and administrators, or those in charge of media announcements are the last to know of them. It's a far cry from the days when only Robbo, and his disciples, knew what was going on.

There has never been a leak in the ten years Mr May has been in charge. He said so!

County cricket media officer's these days - especially with the exponential growth of social media - need to keep their eye firmly on the ball. If a scoop appears, information is leaked or a strong rumour circulates, then, surely, they need to act fast and either confirm the story or not.
Steve Hollis’ article came out five days ago both via digital and in printed version, where it stated, “The New Zealand batsman is set to be confirmed as Sussex’s overseas signing for the NatWest T20 Blast, the Argus understands.”
While in fairness to Adam, today is that confirmation, why couldn’t he confirm it 5 days ago after the Argus story? Or was Monday assigned as the press release day and hell or high water it would remain so?

The 'leak' that Wiese had signed for Sussex was even more avoidable for it wasn't a leak at all but an official announcement by the Titans CEO in South Africa. If Sussex wanted to embargo the anouncement of Wiese's signing for a particular time on a particular day, Toumasi/Andrew should at least have liaised with Wiese's South African employer. One phone call or e-mail is all that would have been needed so that both ends of the deal were working in sync...

Early days yet, but the edgy, self-conscious tone of this report of Ross Taylor's recovery from his latest injury, a calf muscle tear doesn't make me feel particularly comfortable with his prospects for play for Sussex in the T20 later this summer. He is "85%-90%" recovered from the injury and "should be available to play the Champions Trophy and the triangular tournament in Ireland, also featuring Bangladesh, which precedes the ICC event". And if he isn't fit and just manages to grit his teeth and last it out,m and then comes to Sussex and falls over in his first match....where are our reserves?
