Sorry to see that this press release( www.kentcricket.co.uk/news/amjad-khan-wins-pca-scholarship) comes out from Kent CCC and doesn't appear to have been matched yet by Sussex, but the story behind it is unequivocally good for cricket, and in particular tells a lot about the character of Amjad. The PCA has awarded a number of scholarships for Personal Development to professional cricketers past and present. Among them is Amjad, who since his retirement following years of struggling with injuries, has been studying law in his native Denmark and has already used his legal knowledge to help families from Syria seeking refuge. As he says " You hear about the different players who finish their careers and then struggle but, thanks to the PCA, I have a life that is equally as rewarding as being a professional cricketer. I hope my story can inspire some of the other players because life after cricket can be very tough."
Khan and former Worcestershire spinner Shaaiq Choudhry were the winners of the Past Player Progression Personal Development Awards with Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale and Northamptonshire all rounder Steven Crook winning in the Current Players category and Warwickshire pair Richard Jones and Jonathon Webb in the Newcomers category.
