Congratulations to former Sussex and Hampshire pace bowler Billy Taylor, who has joined the first class umpire's list in succession to Mark Benson.
Billy is the forgotten man of the 2003 Championship season, playing in 7 matches and taking 21 wickets, partnering Lewry when Kirtley was away and Kirtley in Lewry's absence. In consecutive wins against Lancashire and Essex in mid August his wickets were invaluable as the side made the last big push towards the championship, with match figures of 7-98 against Lancs. In the final game against Leicestershire he took two wickets in each innings.
The next season he moved to Hampshire, where he was born, and took 33 wickets but his career didn't really take off and he retired at the end of 2009 with 136 first class wickets, 182 in List A and 30 for Hampshire in T20.
