Another first for the women's game www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/feb/26/australian-among-the-first-ever-female-umpiring-appointments-for-world-t20As so often, the surprise is why this hasn't happened before. And how long will it take before there is a programme designed to encourage and equip women for umpiring in men's games on a regular basis? " Polosak, a Sydney-based school teacher, made history by becoming the first woman to umpire in a List A competition in Australia when she undertook third umpire duties in the Matador Cup clash between Queensland and the Cricket Australia XI last year."

Time to shift the burden of hope onto another England side undergoing changes in structure and led by a new coach. England Women play Bangladesh Women today at Bangalore. Good luck and let's hope that we hear nothing about the potential of naivety. There is quite a good profile and interview with Robinson in his new role here www.espncricinfo.com/women/content/story/981915.htmlSome revealing quotes illustrate his obsession with hands-on involvement "'...Im on the shop floor, coaching every day, and I love that. You can forget just how enjoyable coaching can be when you're doing budgets, sorting out transport and what not." Perhaps that explains why he was - twice - ignored in his applications to become the England Men's team coach, a more cerebral and political kind of appointment.

A really close game for England Women and a valuable victory against India. www.espncricinfo.com/icc-womens-world-twenty20-2016/engine/match/951395.html Chasing 91 might not be such a huge target but being 79-7 after 15.1 overs is certainly as close to the edge of the pit as they could go without falling right in. All praise to Jenny Gunn, and to Katherine Brunt and Anya Shrubsole for finally getting them over the finishing line. Brunt's 4not out in 15 balls might not win her a place in the pantheon of T20 scoring, but her determination was invaluable. The result puts England level on points with West Indies at the top of their group, and India rather surprisingly look to be going out of the competition early.

Yes, I watched the England run chase - it was absolutely nail-biting. I love these low scoring cat and mouse T20 matches. England seemed to lack concentration at times, and didn't always handle the pressure imposed by some very good Indian spinners. Out of 8 wickets lost, two were stumpings and two were run outs, so in the end I suppose England helped to create their own pressure! A very enjoyable watch.

While watching the game it struck me that Sarah Taylor is probably Sussex's No2 wicket keeper!

While watching the game it struck me that Sarah Taylor is probably Sussex's No2 wicket keeper! That's it! The masterplan is revealed. At one stroke Sussex will achieve fame and respect as a pioneer of sexual equality and save on the wage bill. We have all been wrong and I humbly bow my head before the genius of Chairman Jim, Zac "El Supremo" Toumasi and the massed ranks of the Sussex coaching squad and retired players association.

I have seen very little womens cricket but have just watched the England innings. Maybe a little unfair after watching one innings but I was amazed how poor the standard. was. I had always thought it was good club standard but today no where near. All credit the spinners turned the ball but bowled so many long hops that batsmen didn't have strength or timing to get past field

Both England teams through to the semi-finals.

That was abysmal. I understand Robinson has been trying to instil "power hitting" into the England team: he has failed. Throwing away a position so strong, and through mostly gift wickets is a bit like England men's cricket of 20 years ago. Taylor's dismissal was as bad and as cretinous an example of a player who is over-coached as anything I have ever seen. There was no need to her to play the reverse sweep, which she had failed with several times already and it can only have been some sort of nonsense that she had been told about "T20 shots" that can have prevented her from simply playing the ball on its merits, and hitting it.

Certainly, there is a view that England "bottled it" but others like Simon Hughes tweeted:
"Good effort by England women. They didn't bottle it. They needed a bit more power and to run more twos."

Strangely, the commentators said that there was no point Beaumont expecting Edwards to run 2s, because she was notoriously slow! Robinson said afterwards that fitness was an issue for England.

Just watched Englands reply. First 3 accomplished batters but rest were dreadful. Going on from my previous post just cannot believe how poor the standard is. Money must have been good for Robinson to have taken that role.

Perhaps a little unfair. He may have had little choice. There's always a choice, he could have said no! Maybe he didn't want to be unemployed.
