Per Cricinfo report on IPL match today: KP Pietersen* run out (†Uthappa) 6 12 1 0 50.00
5.3 from Shakib Al Hasan, what has he done! This is the most stupid dismissal. He comes forward, defends it to cover and just starts running like a mad man. There was no run there.. The keeper moves forward, picks up the ball and runs him out.. KP never really looked back.. 26/2
plus ca change . . .

Just watched another dismal batting performance by KP. He looks hopelessly out of nick.

Looks a shadow of himself physically. Maybe S&F has some knowledge on his diet - or his illness.

Very sad that no-one has come out of the ECB sacking debacle of Pietersen earlier this year with any dignity. Today, England are humiliatingly trounced by Sri Lanka and KPs team the 'Delhi Daredevils' earn the wooden spoon in the IPL with just 2 wins out of 14 games.
The only positive is that KP scored his first 50 of the tournament in the team's last game - too little too late - suggesting his form may be finally returning, and England could have found a promising bowler in Harry Gurney.
Surrey should now benefit greatly from Pietersen's UK return - especially when he has even more to prove.
His honest tweet today:
I'm sorry to all our wonderful fans! What we did this IPL wasn't good enough! I will accept a lot of the blame as capt - only fair! Sorry!

Apparently he's playing for Surrey on Friday night at the The Oval v Middlesex, who have been beyond awful in the T20 Bash so far.
What odds - if we are still allowed to mention betting on a Sussex message board - on a KP duck and Middx's first win of the camapaign?

I knew he'd be the sort of idiot who wore his hat the wrong way round.

Perhaps, trying to be a man of the people, although he looks more like a caricature of a modern Andy Capp! His actions have gone down well in the twittersphere. Although, not sure how well Pietersen's two cricketing academies in Dubai and India will do after his low-key showing in the recent IPL. Their success is now based around his future IPL performances. One imagines KP can get away with one poor tournament but two? As playing for Surrey and the Caribbean T20 may not be sufficient to pull in the Asian punters. I reckon Surrey are lucky to have a Pietersen now. He appears ripe to rediscover his form. Although, a first UK appearance nought since his England sacking seems fairly likely. How long will it take Ford to turn things around at Surrey? Pietersen could be the catalyst he needs.

It is confirmed. Pietersen plays for Surrey at 'The Oval' on Friday evening against Middlesex in the T20 Blast. The start is 6.30pm. This is his first UK appearance in the middle since his sacking. One wonders how many extra bums on seats he'll attract. Surrey state they have already sold around 14,000 advanced tickets using KP as a promotional tool Shame that he has just tweeted that he's not playing...

How hilarious. More like certain media have egg on their face. And what of those people who bought tickets believing they would see Pietersen play.
What an embarrassing mess.
"Frustrating having to miss tomorrow night for @surreycricket, but all being well, my debut for summer '14 will be next week!"

Potentially there are 5 Blasts and 4 Champuionship matches in that period, but I'm sure there will be important shop-openings for him to attend to avoid having to put up with 4 days each in the likes of Derby and Colwyn Bay.

The ECB has apologised to KP for comments made by Paul Downton www.espncricinfo.com/england/content/current/story/748989.htmlI don't think they're apologising for the content of the comments. It's the fact that they were made in breach of the (temporary) confidentiality agreement between the ECB and KP. Frankly, Downton should have known better - this is poor from someone trying to assert his authority in the brave new world.

I wouldn't worry too much - Downton wanted the ECB story out there and knew he'd have to 'apologise' in a way that allowed them to stand by their story.
