Well done Andrew Strauss, Sky Sport's worst ever commentator, for so stupidly reigniting the KP affair by calling him by the 'c' word this afternoon, and making the story of the day not the MCC v ROW celebrations but his stupid vendetta against England's best batsman. For once Piers Morgan seems to have got it right when he tweeted: 'If Strauss story is true then he'll have to be fired, surely? Or is a commentator calling @kp24 a 'c**t' on air acceptable @skycricket? After all, Strauss himself axed KP from his England team for allegedly saying similar things about him that weren't even broadcast.' Andy Gray was also sacked as a football commentator by Sky for a comparable indiscretion. If there is any consistency, it is hard to see how Strauss can survive. Storm in a teacup, BM. Strauss made the comment during an advert break - it wasn't heard in the UK. I wonder if Strauss realised the audio was live in foreign parts? Anyway, it was not intended as a public comment and he has apologised. End of, I think. Trust Morgan to get out of his pram. Some may even agree with Strauss's description of KP.

Pietersen's text messages weren't made in public and were a storm in a teacup. Still got him sacked - at Strauss's insistence.
Andy Gray's comments with Richard Dark weren't made on air, either - and both were sacked by Sky Sports.
If Strauss isn't at least suspended and then forced to undergo a period of "reintegration" before he's allowed back, then double standards reign.

Is this a story? "Retired England player, known for his antipathy to other former England player, is caught showing ignorance of microphone procedure and lack of professionalism while in the press box"?
In the words we have come to know and love so much this season, move on, there's nothing to see here.

More from Morgan, who has no intention of 'moving on'. And I'd say he he has a point after Zzzzzzstrauss demanded that Pietersen was dropped for allegedly using exactly the same word about him in a private text message. The double standards are rather nauseating, wouldn't you concede?
<If KP called Strauss a 'c**t' on air, cricket media would destroy him. But they're all 'feeling sorry' for 'poor Straussy'. #Hypocrites
<Grovelling apology to KP on air from Andrew Zzzzzzztrauss just now. But the snooty halo's gone forever now, sunshine.
<Personally, I'd fire Andrew Zzzzzztrauss for offences against the tedious commentary act, let alone calling @kp24 a "c**t"live on air.
MCC must be furious at the way he's stolen the headlines on what was supposed to be their day.

No, borderman, don't agree that there are double standards or moral equivalences at issue here, or to put it in terms with which I'm sure you are familiar: "Sir, there is no settling the point of precedency between a louse and a flea."

I agree with what David Hopps, the sensible, non-tabloid voice of cricinfo, has to say.
The highlights of which:
"There will be no moving on for a while as Pietersen's supporters will find just cause to rail against the double standards they perceive to be at the heart of English cricket...
Two years ago, Pietersen famously incurred the ECB's wrath by texting that Strauss was a "doos", an Afrikaans word that strictly speaking means "box" but which has similar connotations to Strauss' remark. Except some linguists might point out that "doos" can also be slang for idiot, whereas c*** pretty much leaves nothing to the imagination...
Both insults were, in essence, private communications that entered the public domain...The difference is that Pietersen and Strauss were team-mates in the first instance, charged with maintaining at least the pretence of unity...
That Pietersen and Strauss, despite their shared South African roots, do not get on is not news... But any suspicion of double standards in this tawdry, overblown soap opera is news and, as such, Strauss' remarks need to be made public.
When Pietersen, to his horror, was outed in 2012, he tried to influence public opinion by issuing a fulsome apology on YouTube...Strauss will suffer his shame privately. There will be shame because he knows his public perception will have faltered as a result. There will be shame, too, because he made his slip during the MCC bicentenary match and because as a natural conservative, a proud believer in tradition, to have slipped up at Lord's will feel even worse.
He can no longer hold the moral high ground. Until today, it is a privileged position from where he has observed this whole, shoddy, tiresome business. He is now down in the gutter, wallowing around with the rest of us."
To add to his embarrassment, I think Morgan has coined a nickname that will stay with him forever, in the pages of Private Eye and elsewhere - Andrew Zzzzzzzstrauss. What a shame Spitting Image isn't still around. KP and Zzzzzzstrauss might have become as infamous a puppetry double act as the Two Davids were back in the days of the SDP...

Sensible and non-tabloid though he may be Hopps is equally guilty of making a big fuss out of a squalid little wrangle between two former players. Strauss, as I said, is a fool for being so unprofessional and so ignorant of the pitfalls he might create for himself. Pietersen is Pietersen, and if you like that kind of thing, that's the kind of thing you would like.
As for Moron, well there's the problem. He's much cleverer than either of the two sock-puppets above and his sole agenda is inflating the value of Piers Morgan stock. Everything he says and does is calculated to raise his profile and earnings potential. Poor old Pietersen hasn't a clue about this, he thinks he's found his one true friend in life and he'll throw a magnificent paddy when the day comes that Moron drops him and moves on to something else that's a better earner.

I particularly like the bit about Morgan being a clever moron. If there is such a thing, he would be my candidate for definition. Bit nasty too, all that crying he makes people do.
What a bunch of doosras.

Just listened to this - it took a little patience. What a boorish, over-bearing, prejudiced, pugnacious, ill-mannered performance from PM.

Talk of KP leaving Surrey to get regular four day cricket next year. But where?
Middlesex would allow him to stay in London but would they want him?, Kent, Hampshire, Essex and Sussex all in striking range.
Would we want him?
