Opening a thread for comments on the first game of the season, starting on Bank Holiday Monday. Admission is, of course, free. Last year's practice was notable in retrospect for the first appearance of Ollie Robinson, bowling in the second innings.

This one might be notable for how many players manage to stay on their feet in the predicted gale force winds. Cricket in England before the end of March just doesn't seem right.

A period of heavy, persistent rain is expected to move northeastwards Sunday night and Monday morning, bringing a risk of surface water flooding, perhaps exacerbated in places by wind-blown debris.

Winds will strengthen markedly across southern England and through the Bristol Channel from the early hours of Monday, with the potential for 50-60 mph gusts inland and 70 mph gusts around coasts exposed to the south. Whilst there is a low likelihood of all areas seeing these strong gusts for a time, southern coastal counties from Hampshire eastwards look most likely to see the strongest winds, and in these areas there is also the possibility of some 60-70 mph gusts well inland. Wind will soon ease from the south west during the morning, then clearing from south east England and East Anglia by mid-afternoon. Additional hazards may include large waves around exposed coasts as well as a period of heavy rain.
Please be aware of the potential for disruption to outdoor activities and travel, as well as the possibility of fallen trees and temporary interruptions to power supplies.

Any news on the squad? I'm assuming, with no Jordan, it will be Magoffin, Shahzad, Robinson and Jimmy Anyon forming a formidable pace attack

There's been no word on his fitness or contract, I reckon he's a goner unfortunately. My guess is that we'll field a large squad, all those who are fit plus a couple of the youngsters. |

Good to see Ollie Robinson playing as I thought I read there was an injury scare that he might not be fit for the start of the season. But what's wrong with Luke Wright?
If Anyon still isn't ready to try a gentle run-out in a friendly some 21 months after he last appeared competetively for the first XI in June 2014, then I reckon Joe is right : sadly he's a goner.
