Close of play Sussex 387/4
Brown 126* Finch 135*
Finch may just have got himself picked for Sunday with that knock.

My XI to face Northants: Wells, Joyce, Machan, Nash, Wright (c), Finch, Brown (+), Robinson, Shahzad, Briggs, Magoffin Nash and Magoffin will definitely come in. So will Taylor. Arrives in Hove on Thursday and will go straight into the side on Sunday in place of Wells or Finch... Your side has nine of those playing v the uni, cp. MD says in the Argus that only "six or seven" will be retained. If Robinson was still here and Joyce was captain, we could be certain that Briggs would drop out and we would play four seamers. It will be intersting to see whether MD and Luke Wright are prepared to go into the first game with just three seamers.

Taylor will come in for Wells and Nash will open. Finch has to play on Sunday after his hundred today. Revised XI: Joyce, Nash, Machan, Taylor, Wright (c), Finch, Brown (+), Robinson, Shahzad, Briggs, Magoffin

Chris Jordan's return will also be delayed until May 1 in order to allow him to receive treatment upon his sore right elbow. Believe what you will. His arm was heavily strapped in the World Cup. It's probably precautionary but I'd rather he came back fighting fit with no niggles.

I think Coverpoint has the probable team spot on, barring any last minute injuries of course! 1st of May is the latest return date for a player and Jordan shares this with Root and Hales. Most are coming back earlier. Do we think CJ will be in the test squad? I have a suspicion that he will be carrying drinks and then who knows if we will get him.

Root and Hales haven't got an injury that will force them out until exactly the same time as Jordan have they? God darnit, what are the odds? Which of CP's teams is spot on, the one without what should be our best batsman or the other one? Either only have three seamers so they're both wrong. If we go with either of CP's teams we have issues. It's simple in April, your six best batsmen, a wicky and your four best seamers.

Rain brings an early lunch at Hove. The students are 290/4. Davis c&b Briggs for 65 and Root ct Joyce b Finch for 133. Not a lot in this wicket for the bowlers.

Fraudster - While I agree we should play 4 seamers and hatchett/garton should go in for Briggs I was taking that team suggestion as a measure on what we will play rather than should play!
Also is this pitch a little dead or is the bowling from both sides a bit pedestrian?
