Taylor has a heart condition "similar to the one which affected footballer Fabrice Muamba" and is to retire immediately. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/36024253The very best wishes to him personally and hope that he will be able to find something to replace cricket in his life, and thank goodness it was detected in time.

Awfully sad news. A player who, by all accounts, had to work harder than most to get the recognition he deserved. A great character and a big loss to the game. I wish him well in his future endeavours.

This is absolutely awful - I've always been one of his admirers.
So sorry, James - what a blow.

Agree fb. And a 100 on debut for Sussex (part of the Sussex family?)

Agree fb. And a 100 on debut for Sussex (part of the Sussex family?) . . . and then that huge double century against us at Horsham, which I was privileged to watch.

Agree fb. And a 100 on debut for Sussex (part of the Sussex family?) Hmmm...a bit negated by his 291 against Sussex at Horsham last year. Not a great innings, with lots of playing and missing but an enormous testament to his powers of concentration that he could put behind him the near-misses and just get on with the job of batting. It probably added up to a growing maturity in his game and a couple of his Test innings in South Africa suggested that he could develop into a really good player who knew his limitations and was determined, and skilful enough, to play the game around those limits. If, as we all hope, he has a successful operation and recuperation, then perhaps he might have a new career as a coach, and with that attitude and composure, he could be a very fine one indeed.

This is sad, and shocking. I wondered why he wasn't playing for Notts but couldn't find anything on the BBC about it. Now this, terrible. Good luck to him.

I quite agree, it is an excellent article that hits the note perfectly. GD can be a very good journalist indeed when he doesn't scrape the barrel for scoops that don't really have any substance.
