Hales will be given first go without question. Tom Westley to bat at three. He's 27 already but has four centuries in six matches this season, plus an 86 v Sussex. If Daniel Bell-Drummond continues his good form he may leapfrog Browne and Stoneman as the next untried 'cab on the rank', although the best bowlers on the circuit reckon that anyone with an extra yard of pace only has to post a short-leg and wait for him to pop one up...

Tom Westley is a serious contender for number 3. I say a top three of Cook, Browne and Westley. Then Essex will be screwed. Bell-Drummond needs a couple of good seasons in county cricket before any talk of international selection.
