A superb performance from Sussex, in every discipline, batting, bowling, and even the fielding was keener than usual, despite the dropped catches. My observations from this, and the previous game down at Bristol, is that a lot of work has been down by Luke and the coaching staff on what will be needed to be successful in this competition. Already, we look a side who can challenge this year. I too am a little concerned by the lack of depth in the batting, something also alluded to by Nasser, but I guess Luke enjoys the luxury of having that extra bowler. At the moment it is a luxury though, at least until we can find a bowler who can bat in the top six. However, that's nit picking though, and you can't take anything away from what was an excellent performance by Sussex

Somerset had four bowlers in their top six and they made 30 runs between them. It ain't what you do it's the way that you do it......

Sometimes you need to pick nits. Our batting line up was so thin it made a Brexit campaigner's argument look healthy and full-bodied. With both Salt and Finch in good form and a very strong five-bowler line-up available to us, we need to make that one change to the formation of the side. Fantastic performance last night, but we'll come unstuck if we don't get the balance right from now on.

Fantastic performance last night, but we'll come unstuck if we don't get the balance right from now on. If I had to nit pick, yes those would be my thoughts. We have a powerful top three, and then........ It's nice to have bowling options, but not, I would have thought, at the risk of upsetting the balance of the side. The argument that, if a bowler gets carted, you can take him out of the attack, doesn't wash with me. You'd have to give a front line bowler a couple of overs at least, before you realised he was getting some stick. You can then switch ends to see if that does the trick, and if not, you have to find one over from somewhere else

I wouldn't muck about with Mills in the RLC if I were Sussex or England - since he's got a spine like an EU remain campaigner, as his doctor says - word for word. I think all parties should be happy if this fella is jetting around the world playing T20 cricket, as long as England and Sussex come first and he's on an updated and appropriate contract. T20's very important now and it will only get more so, so be happy with that otherwise he could break down and collapse, like a 'state' using the Euro as its tender.
I too think you need to nit picks, or whatever, so to be proactive not reactive - nice buzz words. We're fine at 150-1 with four batters and Brown but what about when it's 50-3? We can wait for that to happen and lose or we can recognise and evaluate the issue, lovely buzzers, immediately. Let's face it, we do not need a slow bowler who doesn't spin the ball in any form, and especially at Hove with its tiny boundaries. Briggs was a poor signing and the only thing that's keeping him in the side is promises and stubbornness.
