And a warm welcome to our northern, affluent neighbours. Always pleasant to start with a reminder of how things stand: Surrey's last match was against Glamorgan, who bowled them out for 93 in 17.2 overs.

It's time to get the team right and stop under bowling our best bowlers.

I presume Finch is ahead of Salt in the pecking order. As posted elsewhere, Briggs for Shahzad.

Shahzad was brilliant last night Stoner - his figures ended out of proportion to his performance. Briggs ain't Yardy, Yardy's better and he was a sixth option who grew to be more. Finding his skill was a fluke basically and you can't replicate flukes. Nash can be a second spin option.
In this form, Salt has done much more than Finch so I don't get that one - he even cracked 25 odd at 200 SR in his one game for the firsts so he should get first bite. Both in RLC and Finch in the CC.

It was odd that Finch replaced Salt in the squad last night. Perhaps Salt's seen as pinch-hitter and Finch more ship-steadier at six should we elect to get the balance right. Having gone for Finch (almost) last night, I can't see why you'd reverse it tomorrow. The seamers were a revelation last night - one even took the new ball, but I thought the whole point of Briggs coming in was to bowl in tandem with Beer in one-day games. If so, it's a bit early to pull the plug. Then again, if Shahzad is breaking the manager's door down to be picked and intent on destroying the opposition, that sounds good too.

Briggs picked up 2 wickets last night and wasn't hit to all parts. We also picked up 6 penalty points for slow over rate so playing 2 spinners is a must ( Nash seems to have given the bowling up and is concentrating on what he does best ) Shahzad was OK but seems to take an age to set fields/ mark run-ups etc. 3 pace 2 spin is balanced. Be interesting to see what Wiese can do with the bat if we get down that far. I'd be happy with Finch or Salt but Finch is first in the pecking order and has had a good start to 2016 so deserves his spot.
Salt and Garton should be given a go in the 50 over game.

Wake up you pair of mackerels. Salt was ahead of Finch for the first game, obviously, and he did well - Finch cannot be first in the pecking order in this form otherwise he would have played instead of Salt.
Briggs was also signed to play all games in the CC Stonesville, that went well. Things change, and it's clear that he is the man to step aside when we realise that playing four batters is naive. We agree on the balance bit at least.
Our spinners bowled seven overs last night and we still got penalised, so that don't wash. The captain is the issue there, speed up.

Finch will always be first in the pecking order. That's classic Stonewall right there, classic. Don't get it myself but I smell classic.

Strange to see that the normally vociferous Surrey supporters site Come On The Rey! ovalworld.freeforums.net/board/1/surrey-ccc-supporters-club has no thread yet for this match. These are difficult times for Surrey and their supporters. Their forum was extensively revamped a couple of years ago when they were languishing in the Second Division and it took time to build up back to the level of postings and enthusiasm, stirred by the controversies of the Adams era. Last season it was buzzing and hopes were high as they stormed to promnotion. This year there have been some very familiar strains, to Sussex ears at least, like this recent one from a thread about A (nearly) half way review: If everyone had been fit/available, we would be near the top of the table by now. It's hardly surprising that we're bottom.
and answering it another that we could relate to: We have to get away from making injuries/availability the story of our season. Yes, we've had more than our share, but with very few exceptions those who have not been injured have not stepped up to the plate.
Good luck Surrey and good luck Come On The Rey, although those good wishes don't necessarily extend to wanting you to win tonight.

Chris Nash a doubt for tonight with a small bicep tear, to be assessed. I did wonder why Finch came on to field in his place on Wed night.
