Im following at work in Worthing, get these games included with my shark membership but dont think i'll bother at this rate, easy pickings for the chasing side.

Am at the ground. After 30 overs, run rate is 4.8 but another wicket goes, so 6 left, Machan's form continues to evade him. 20 overs left. So we need to up the RR to six an over, if we have any chance against a strong Essex side. Down to Brown and Taylor to up the scoring now. There are reminiscences of last season, at present, but don't wish to dwell on this.

At least its only the first game and there is room for improvement. Like you say don't need to dwell on one performance.

Wright fell to a clever piece of cricket, but Machan gave his wicket away.
James Foster still looking sharp.

I doubt 250 will be enough, we've paid too much respect to an ordinary attack on a cracking pitch, is what I think. We were lame for the first dozen or so overs. I do think our attack is considerably better than theirs so if Taylor can produce a piece of genius in the last ten overs 280 odd may be defendable with our attack. Very much looking forward to seeing how both spinners perform and of course, young Garton.

I've had to stop watching this for a bit. It's a typically slow, stodgy mid-innings borefest at the moment. Give me 40 overs any day.
Come on, Sussex - get on with it!

It's livened up Flash, we nearly ran two but had to abort the second run. Any minute now Ross.

217 What we saying? Defendable under lights especially if Beer and Briggs can up the over rate in tandem.

Coverpoint can comment on Machan. Brown wasn't very good. Neither should be playing the reverse sweep. Jordan has the right attitude. Ten caught and bowled from him and we'll be home and hosed.

One batsman short again. But there's nothing Wright and Davis can do about it - we're only playing five bowlers as it is because we have nobody in the top six who bowls. Four of Essex's top six bowl and they didn't even use one of them today (Ryder, one of only three outfielders who didn't bowl).
271 is defendable, but it will be tough - Essex chose to bowl because they fancied chasing under lights when the wicket slicks up and the ball comes on nicely.
My guess is that Zaidi will hit the winning runs. Apparently Sussex didn't sack him.Colville asked Yardy on commentary if Sussex had "let him go" and Yardy answered, "no, he just moved on" , as if he had an offer from Essex lined up before Robinson gave him his P45.
I'm sure someone in the Essex dressing room will tell him of Sussex's 'economy with the truth' and it will double his determination to pay us back.
Sussex have not won a 50 over match since 2014. It's not out format - second to bottom in the southern group in 2014 and rock bottom in 2015...

The Sussex bowlers need to be on top form tonight to defend 271. The potential of this format is expressed by the Notts score against Northants this afternoon. (445-8!) The opening partnership of Lumb and Wessels put on 342.
Anything can happen if we can get a couple of early wickets but Essex have a strong batting line-up. Fingers and toes crossed.

Finch for Machan for the next game. Prediction 272-6 with Zaidi hitting the winning runs.

At the time, Sussex actually announced that they had released Zaidi: www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/squad-news-trio-of-players-released-by-sussex
