Kent were v good tonight and on current form will win this at a canter.
The bowling is Kent's weak suit and after Coles and Tredwell there's not too much for good batsmen to worry about. But Bell-Drummond, Denly, Northeast, Billings, Stevens, Blake and their overseas star Tom Latham at seven are likely to take Sussex's attack for 200 plus.
Sussex side I'd like to see:
Wright Salt Nash Taylor Finch Brown Wiese Jordan Beer Garton or Robinson Mills

Kent should worry about having a weak suit. We've got four of them and a pack full of jokers too.

The fact that three of us have named 15 players between us I think shows that nobody - including captain and coach, I suspect - is quite sure what Sussex's best XI is...particularly in the bowling.
When Sussex were successful in one day cicket, there would be eleven names that wrote themselves in more or less automatically, and only injury or rotation or perhaps pitch conditions would result in any variance...

I guess there's 5 bowlers we can pencil in, Jordan, Mills, Wiese and the spin twins, Beer and Briggs. However, only three batters have the necessary oomph to be definite starters, Wright, Nash and Taylor, which is a huge problem. Of the rest, probably Cachopa has shown that he has what it takes in this competition, and that was a long time ago. He still seems the best bet for a place though. That leaves two places. Personally, I'd stick with Brown as a keeper, mainly because it's his job, but also we need to know if he can play this format. Likewise with Cachopa, let's give him the best opportunity to capitalise on his improved form for the seconds, without having the burden of keeping. So one place left, a batter or an extra bowler? I'm not sure on this one, five should be enough, but will any of the other batting options enhance our chances of winning? It's a tricky one, but I'll go for Finch as a compromise, because he can bowl the odd over if needed. So my side would be,
Nash Wright Finch Taylor Cachopa Wiese Brown Jordan Beer Briggs Mills

I guess there's 5 bowlers we can pencil in, Jordan, Mills, Wiese and the spin twins, Beer and Briggs. Except that Beer was dropped from the 50 over side yesterday (which was clearly a mistake given how well Salter and Cosker bowled in tandem). By the way, there is a revealing line on Cricinfo by David Hopps, which reads "Danny Briggs joined Sussex to escape his creeping reputation as a specialist one-day spinner." That he was dropped from the championship side after just three games tells us how badly that plan has gone wrong. Something else for Sussex to contend with will be Kent's excellent ground fielding - they pulled off four run-outs v Hants last night.

At least Wiese gives us balance in this competition.

Kent squad: Sam Northeast Daniel Bell-Drummond, Joe Denly, Tom Latham, Darren Stevens, Fabian Cowdrey, Sam Billings, Alex Blake, Matt Coles, Ivan Thomas, Mitch Claydon, Matt Hunn, James Tredwell, David Griffiths.
Hunn, Cowdrey and Claydon the three most likely to miss out - although they might just rotate Coles, who has a huge burden as the go-to bowler and spearhead in all three comps, and bring in Claydon.
I guess it's also possible that they might opt for two spinners and include Cowdrey for Latham, who hasn't quite lived up to his overseas star billing; he has yet to score a run in the T20 Blast and his last four innings in other comps are 24, 2, 7 and 9. Not that Kent need to worry: I was told at Beckenham last weekend he's costing them expenses only because his salary is being picked up by Cricket New Zealand as a 'development cost'.
Does Sussex have a similarly sweet deal with the Kiwi board on Ross Taylor? Probably not, as it would hard to make a case that he's at a developmental stage of his career!

Kent could have batting down to eight with the following XI: Daniel Bell-Drummond, Joe Denly, Sam Northeast, Sam Billings, Alex Blake, Darren Stevens, Tom Latham, Fabian Cowdrey, Matt Coles, James Tredwell and David Griffiths.

Sussex CCC @sussexccc 2m agoThe @1stcentral County Ground looking as lovely as ever ahead of tonight's @natwestt20blast clash with Kent (7.00pm) Can you send that pic to Mr Fiz to show him what he's missing? I don't do floodlit matches but would have made an exception to watch my two favourite sides battle each other this evening - except that I can't go because we have tickets for HM's 90th birthday garden party at Hever Castle - ridiculous really, as I'm a lifelong republican... I have a pair of enamel cufflinks (bought in the Hove club shop a few years ago) which say on them 'I'D RATHER BE AT THE CRICKET'. I'm going to wear them this evening!
