Now Luke Wright, Tymal Mills and Jason Gillespie (he liked the tweet) are supporting the 'Hundred.'

I agree with almost every word of this. I love the way the ECB is described as treating cricket lovers: "It is that combination of condescension, coercion and claptrap which will turn these folk away from the game"

A county cricket coach who says we should embrace 'The 100'.

Vacancy for Fan Engagement Manager - The Hundred (Trent Bridge & Edgbaston) ecb.ciphr-irecruit.com/templates/CIPHR/jobdetail_2590.aspx Usual stuff: "Working with the Venue Champions ... build relationships and manage stakeholders ... provide a best-in-class experience ... "This is where the successful applicants are really going to earn their money:-"Working with the digital content managers to develop content for social media accounts, and with local influencers to increase fan engagement and affinity for the new team brands." The affinity felt by fans for the new team brands is going to take a lot of increasing, and fast. (When are the brands coming out? Sometime after the end of the season I think). I'm intrigued by the concept of 'local influencer' in this context (or any context come to that). Sounds like some kind of regional cricket Zoella figure. I guess we'll know them when we see them.

Let's hope this proves to be a short term appointment! .

More scraps of intel about the team names for the Hundred.www.thecricketer.com/Topics/countycricket/ecb_delay_naming_the_hundred_teams_until_september.html The announcement "has now been postponed to September, partly so as not to distract from the World Cup and the Ashes". The ECB are extremely distraction-averse this week. (Personally I'd still feel able to take an interest in the World Cup and the Ashes even as my mind reeled from the Hundred team branding announcement).Another reason for delaying the announcement seems to be that the ECB haven't come up with any names yet. They are conscious of "the danger of the name of a major city alienating potential fans who live in a neighbouring region. Research has been undertaken and many inhabitants of participating cities interviewed as part of the process, and the idea is for the team name to reflect a defining aspect of each city drawn from the stories of the residents and the area itself."That's the ECB for you: always thinking. It'll be interesting to see how they're going to pull this off. If, for example, you live in Derby, and you fly into a rage at the merest mention of Nottingham, you're unlikely to be fooled into supporting a team calling itself the Lace Doilies. Perhaps this city-based thing wasn't such a great idea after all, if the ECB are finding that they've underestimated the levels of hate felt by people living near cities for those cities.

This sounds like exactly the kind of distraction that the ECB are hoping to avoid by delaying the announcement of the team names for the Hundred.
www.thetimes.co.uk/article/joe-root-opposed-to-naming-yorkshire-franchise-after-leeds-for-the-hundred-jnxnr5vmx
"Joe Root is one of several Yorkshire players disgruntled at the name expected to be given to the Hundred franchise he could represent because 'Leeds' will feature in it. The England captain is a big Sheffield United fan and has reservations about the prospect of competing under the name of their big Yorkshire rivals. Root’s dissatisfaction is shared by many of the county’s supporters and Andrew Gale, the Yorkshire head coach, who supports Huddersfield Town".
The ECB need to hurry up and think of a name that somehow manages to tell the stories of Leeds folk without being so overtly suggestive of Leeds as to offend players and spectators who support football teams other than Leeds United. None of us want to hear Joe Root at the end of the summer, justifying unsuccessful World Cup and Ashes campaigns with words to the effect that "I'm not one to make excuses but obviously the uncertainty over the team names for the Hundred couldn't have come at a worse time".
Andrew Gale hadn't really thought this through when, as Yorkshire captain in 2015, he said "Franchise system would work in England. Ten cities, over a three-week period, straight after IPL". It never occurred to him that Huddersfield wouldn't be one of those cities.
