A window of opportunity opening for Chris Adams? The competition would be very stiff but if he seriously wants a senior cricket post, without leaving England, there could be no better challenge.

Before this news was announced, I was told yesterday that Ian Dews would be the replacement for Gillespie. He would be the cheap option and with significant expenditure due on redeveloping the rugby stand shortly, funds are tight. Interestingly he fronted the recent Member's forum which was a first.
Otherwise I would think that the Silverwood/McGrath partnership would be strong candidates especially if Essex secure promotion. However that would entail Yorkshire buying out their contracts which they may be reluctant to do.
I can see a scenario where Dews does the job for a season and then Darren Lehmann comes in. He is still very much in touch with Yorkshire and his son has just turned up as overseas for the rest of the season.

Can you post any background info on Ian Dews, who is a new name to me (he said apologetically as a down-Souther).

yorkshireccc.com/teams/view/48/ian-m-dewsAs requested hh. Dews is highly thought of at Yorkshire. It may be that I am totally wrong about this but the information came from a source that has been correct before and it would fit the Yorkshire way to promote from within. I was also told that Paul Farbrace was the preferred candidate but it would seem unlikely he would leave England any time soon.

A window of opportunity for Mark Robinson? i) Fed up wih inferior "girls" cricket ( even if some them are quite bright like "Clever" Heather). ii) Missed his final Sussex AGM due to pressing "family" matters in Yorkshire. iii) Hull City back in the premiership. iv) Looked a lost soul badly missing alpha male pro-sports masculinity when recently seen moping around at Hove during the match v Glos v) Had the hell embarrassed out of him last week when Charlotte Edwards, his arch-enemy and chief rival as England women's cricket supremo, led the Southern Vipers to victory in the inaugural T20 Kia Super League. To add insult to injury, the victorious Vipers also included Lydia Greenway, another of Robinson's victims whom he recently coerced into annoucing her retirment from his England team. And Charlotte's mature women defeated Clever Heather's girls in the final... As for Chris Adams, if he chucked the Ireland job because he didn't want to move, then surely Headingley is every bit as inconvenient? The flight from Gatwick to Dublin is much quicker than driving the M23/M25/M1 from the South Downs to Leeds , as Ed Joyce can tell him!

George Dobell was very coy in a chat with Simon Mann on TMS today. He mentioned over a dozen candidates including Gary Kirsten, Stephen Flemming and Andy Flower. I expect a Cricinfo "exclusive" will narrow the field somewhat.

I expect a Cricinfo "exclusive" will narrow the field somewhat. He'll probably dust off the same story he wrote when Graham Ford left Surrey and he claimed Paul Farbrace was favourite for the job and the England number two was tired of spending months abroad in the national cause. The story was removed and rewritten within an hour after cricinfo received a complaint from the ECB, pointing out that two weeks earlier Farbrace had signed a new extension to his contract! Journalists like Dobell just make it up as they go along, I'm afraid.

I like Lgs suggestion. Makes a lot of sense given Yorkshire have success momentum where they don't wish to upset the rhythm. So, bring in Dews for a season or two until another Aussie heavyweight like Lehman decides to downsize his priorities and stresses.
Robinson at Yorkshire? I can't see it although borderman makes a mischievous case. He will tire of women's cricket but later rather than sooner, imho.

The White Rose Forum seem to think that Brad Hodge is the current favourite for the job. He has knowledge of the county scene so may well be considered. De Venuto got the Surrey job and is of a similar vintage.
