Cricinfo reports that there will be a four day fixture against South Africa A for Sussex at Arundel next summer, and "Sussex and Northamptonshire will each host South Africa in one-day warm-up games ahead of the three-match ODI series in May". There will be a 50 over floodlit game at Hove between Sussex and the South African touring side on 19th May, and also "...a bonus Tour Match for Sussex supporters later in the summer when South Africa A will be the visitors to Arundel Castle, for a four-day match to face Sussex between Wednesday 14th and Saturday 17th June, however, if Sussex reach the play-off stages of the Royal London One-Day Cup, then the tourists will play a Duke of Norfolk XI." Not really sure how the D of N's team, whoever they might be, could sustain a 4 day fixture, or even why. www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/tour-match-sussex-to-host-south-africa-at-hove-in-2017

Got to be a real chance that this 4 day friendly fixture against the Saffers 2nd XI will replace the Arundel county championship match hasn't there?

Got to be a real chance that this 4 day friendly fixture against the Saffers 2nd XI will replace the Arundel county championship match hasn't there? Yes. Mr Filby told me two years ago that any reduction in the CC programme would mean the end of Sussex outground cricket. Horsham has already gone and with only seven instead of eight home CC matches next season, it was always likely that Arundel would follow suit as a CC venue.

Which would explain why there is this seeming insouciance about whether it is "Sussex" V South Africa A, or the Duke of Norfolk's XI. Presumably the Friends of Arundel, and they are extremely well-moneyed friends, are meeting the costs of the fixture.

Presumably if Sussex are not involved, having qualified for the later stages of the RL Cup, then the side will be a composite made up from players from the teams that did not qualify. The old Duke/Duchess of Norfolk teams that played the tourists contained recently retired "stars" but as this is a 4 day fixture I suspect such appearances are unlikely.
