Since we will have rather a lot of Test Match Specials to listen to in the next few weeks it might be timely to get views and votes on who you think conveys the best picture of the game and impresses you with their insight. I'm concentrating on the spoken word because it does seem to call much more on knowledge and the ability to convey it to the listener, so no Gower or David Lloyd. Happy to add any I've missed out from the attached poll, which includes the BBC Radio Sussex commentators this summer.
You may cast votes for up to 6 names, if you like x's summary and y's insight and z's anecdotes make you chuckle, and poll closes at midnight on Halloween.

Michael Vaughan and Phil Tufnell are surprising absentees as they are regulars on TMS. My 6th vote would have ben for Isha Guha. Charles Dagnell is another left off the list but I assume the inclusion of Ms Ammon is an attempt at humour?

You are right leedsgull, and that just shows how many people are rotated by the BBC in presenting TMS. I cannot edit the poll to add new names, as I thought - which is probably a good argument for fairness in these things. I will note that you cast a vote for Isa Guha when the polling is done, and should anyone else wish to nominate Isa, Mr Vaughan or His Lairiness, please make a short post and I will count it in. As to Ms Ammon and Mr Harms, it seemed reasonable to get some feedback on the Sussex radio presenters.

For mostly South African commentary, Robin Jackman is always enjoyable - Jeremy Coney too.

Voted for two of the three women and would have voted for Tufnell as a rare breath of working-class fresh air in a box full of public schoolboys (which is why Boycott also got a vote from me).
I would also like to cast a vote for Isa Guha and offer a special call-out for Ebony Rainsford-Brent. She's been superb during the Bangaldesh series and, apart from token guest commentators representing touring nations, I'm guessing she and Guha must be the first regular non-white commentators/summarisers in TMS's 60 year history?

Yes, I voted for Ebony and for Alison Mitchell. Apart from knowing their cricket, they're both a breath of fresh air and a joy to listen to.

Is Daniel Norcross the new bloke doing the current series? I think he tries a little too hard. I prefer Simon Mann and even though I disliked Ed Smith as a player, I'm surprised how much I like him on TMS. Graeme Swann gets my goat, and Vaughan is a bit of a tit, especially when on with Blowers, who I also find irritating. I think Ebony is the best of the ladies and is a very good summariser.

I'm surprised not to see any votes for that incisive and perceptive commentator Henry Blofeld. Surely his wonderful vocal expressions below must earn him at least one vote?

Well, I just hope his new musical career takes off, and finds he hasn't enough time to do TMS any more !

Some very interesting responses. The winners appear to be the very old school pairing of Jonathan Agnew and Geoffrey Boycott, just holding off Vic Marks and with strong challenges from Simon Mann and Alison Mitchell. Of the local BBC Sussex commentators only Adrian Harms had supporters amongst those voting. Noted there were two votes for Isa Guha, who was not on the original list, and added to Ebony Rainford-Brent and Alison Mitchell that comes to 12 votes for women presenters. Thanks to all who voted and who posted.
